I keep having to point out that while the above statements were uttered, the Democrats didn't believe a word of them. This is why the Dems double-crossed Reagan back in the '80s, refusing to pass border security measures even though they'd promised to—in exchange for the amnesty Reagan granted. Of course, the '90s Dem pronouncements did reflect a cultural difference in that the Dems at least had to pay lip service to border enforcement.
