From what I'm seeing online you can practically be in Singapore for free. Hostels under $20 per night. Street food for $3-5. Thrift shops with practically free secondhand clothes. And unbelievably low crime rates. Compare to NYC where you pay $500 per day for the same.

it's amusing to see tech people stealing valor and denouncing wokeness now that it's trendy. paul graham is an interesting example since he didn't shy away from DEI at YC and is pretty woke himself - evidenced by his antipathy towards israel for instance.

apparently, we're all supposed to be positive now so the new algo will like us. well, i'm positive that if "criticizing other users, politicians, and governments/policies" is reach reduced, twitter will lose its place as the agora of debate and become just another lame backrub circle like fest. this is not instagram. it's twitter. this is where peer review happens now. this is where the small may call the mighty to account, the place where we get to have our say. so, what, we're all suddenly not supposed to call out the UK over rotherham or the US over the budget and regulatory capture? the value of twitter lies in exactly these things. this is where facts get checked and truth gets chased. that's a messy and sometimes adversarial process. bring back the old elon. he used to understand.

I am an Arab living in Israel, and I am proud to be part of this country and its great people. My grandparents witnessed the events of 1948. When the Israeli forces entered with their military strength, it was a new and advanced sight for the region, which caused fear among the people. Part of my family quickly fled to Jordan. However, as the rest of my family approached the border, an Israeli military jeep followed them, and the soldiers said, “Do not run away; we will not harm you.” No one was expelled by force or at gunpoint. They returned to their homes safely. Today, we live a comfortable and stable life in Israel. We hold Israeli citizenship, and some of us serve in the army to fight against terrorism that threatens all of us. I thank God for this blessing of safety and stability. Meanwhile, our relatives in Jordan live in severe poverty—not because they are refugees, but because, like many other Arab nations, they are deprived of progress and stability. I firmly believe that Israel was never an occupying force but rather returned to its rightful historical and legal homeland. It did not commit massacres or forcibly expel anyone. Those who left did so by their own will or sold land that wasn’t even theirs. Israel is a model of justice and stability compared to the struggles faced by Arabs in neighboring countries🙏🏻🇮🇱

In the Netherlands we all pay $150 monthly and it works pretty fine. Those who can't afford the $150 get like $120 tax credit. Read on. The Dutch healthcare system could be a blueprint for the USA: Universal Coverage: Everyone in the Netherlands is insured, eliminating the uninsured burden on emergency services. Mandatory Insurance: With a private insurance market regulated by the government, it ensures competition while securing basic coverage for all. Efficiency: Despite high-quality care, costs are lower than in the U.S. due to price regulation, bulk purchasing, and a focus on primary care which reduces unnecessary specialist visits. Equity: Income-based premiums and government subsidies mean healthcare is accessible regardless of income, reducing disparities. Innovation: The system supports medical research and innovation, providing a dynamic environment for healthcare advancements. Patient Choice: Dutch residents can choose their insurance provider annually, fostering a competitive market that benefits consumers with better services and prices. Health Outcomes: The Netherlands consistently ranks high in health outcomes, suggesting that their system delivers both in terms of quality and efficiency. For the USA, adopting such a system could mean lower overall healthcare costs, universal access, and better health outcomes while still allowing for private insurance market dynamics. It's about balancing freedom of choice with collective responsibility.

Insurance exists to cover events that are random, infrequent, catastrophic, & outside the control of the individual. That’s Econ 101. But here’s the rub: only 30% of medical events meet these criteria, yet >70% of healthcare costs are borne by insurance. A hard question about rising U.S. health costs is whether we’re using the wrong instrument to pay for much of it.

@NicolasReid @VivekGRamaswamy In Israel appears to be a similar system How long in the Netherlands for one on the mandatory insurance it would normally take to visit •a GP? •a specialist like endocrinologist, urologist, etc.? •a center for CT, PET-CT, etc.?
