Historically, gambling in Texas has been prohibited. County law enforcement officials are willfully protecting illegal gambling joints in their jurisdictions by knowingly misinterpreting court cases, state statutes, and the Constitution, all of which clearly make gambling illegal. This must stop. Gambling devices are illegal, period, and will remain so unless the people see fit to change the Texas Constitution. We Must Act Now: Secure Texas Against Sharia Law Now is the time for Governor Abbott to call a special legislative session to ensure one simple principle: Texas law and the U.S. Constitution must always come first in our courts. My letter to the Governor is clear, this matter simply cannot wait until the next regular session in 2027. Religious freedom is fundamental, and every Texan has the right to practice their faith. But no foreign religious or legal system should ever override the constitutional protections guaranteed to people in Texas. We must have clear statutory language that prohibits the enforcement or recognition of Sharia law, or any foreign religious legal system in Texas courts, arbitration, or civil governance that does not protect the inherent rights granted under the U.S. and Texas Constitutions. With the overwhelming passage of Proposition 10 on the Republican midterm ballot, Texans made it clear they want to reject the influence of Sharia law in our legal system. Our leaders should act on that message now. We must do what we can NOW to close any gaps in state law and make it abundantly clear that Texas courts will only recognize and enforce laws consistent with our Constitution. I stand ready to assist in drafting legislation, supporting interim or emergency studies, and working to ensure that any action taken is constitutionally sound, precise, and effective. Grateful for this step. Dr. Bowden demonstrated courage and conviction at a time when few were willing to speak out. She stood by her medical judgment and her patients, even knowing it could come at significant personal and professional risk. Sadly, that courage has carried a heavy cost. Since late 2021, the Texas Medical Board has aggressively pursued disciplinary action against Dr. Bowden for her advocacy of Ivermectin and her opposition to mask and vaccine mandates. For nearly four years, she has faced serious allegations of professional misconduct that have largely proven baseless. Nevertheless, the prolonged process has imposed more than $100,000 in legal expenses, along with ongoing reputational and professional strain. I applaud Attorney General Paxton seeing what this really was and ensuring her medical freedoms are protected.
