Smart Democrat: “Quite literally voters tell us what they want and what they need. Dems’ problem is that we tell them they are wrong. When someone says prices are too high, answer can’t be ‘You don’t understand, this is best economy ever!’” And that’s not candidate specific.

Happy 100th birthday to President Jimmy Carter! As we celebrate this incredible milestone, I want to honor the deep bond between President Carter and my family. Both my father, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and President Carter were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, and together, they left an indelible mark on the fight for justice and human rights. President Carter’s lifelong commitment to peace, justice, and equality has not only transformed Atlanta but also our world. He awarded my father the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1977. When my mother sought landmark status for the King National Historic Site, he signed legislation in 1980 establishing the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site and Preservation District, which was officially renamed the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park in January 2018. President Carter’s friendship with my late grandfather, Rev. Martin Luther King Sr., "Daddy King," and his unwavering support of my mother, Coretta Scott King, reflect his deep dedication to human rights and equality. I must also acknowledge his unwavering support for my mother, Coretta Scott King. While she and Daddy King endorsed his candidacy for president, through his decisions, he endorsed my mother as a global leader for human rights, appointing her as a public delegate to the U.N. General Assembly and as commissioner of the International Women’s Year Conference. We are forever grateful for his contributions and partnership in this ongoing journey toward justice. Thank you for continuing to inspire us all. Wishing you a blessed and joyous 100th birthday, President Carter! #JimmyCarter100 #MLK #NobelPeacePrize #HumanRights #TheKingCenter #TheCarterCenter #HappyBirthdayPresidentCarter

And thank you @NickKristof for traveling with him (and like him) beyond the end of the road to partner with the powerful people in some of the world’s forgotten places. That really is his life’s work @CarterCenter

Happy 100th birthday to President Carter. He has been a leader in public service in the Navy, in the White House and in places like this village in Ethiopia where he was defeating River Blindness and other tropical diseases. Thanks, Mr. President, for a century of inspiration.

I was saddened to hear of the passing of Dikembe Mutombo. I personally travelled with Dikembe in Africa and all of us @CarterCenter honor his humanitarian work in Atlanta and abroad. @officialmutombo was a truly great person. There will never be another like him.

“Jimmy Carter 100″ was a beautifully rendered tribute to a son of Georgia 🎂🎉 Admiration and pure joy were the order of the night as musicians across genres came together at the Fox Theatre to celebrate the former president's upcoming 100th birthday: bit.ly/3Xysx2o

Y’all @KamalaHarris crushed that. And I want an edit of @realDonaldTrump on the phone on Fox after the speech when he was so nervous he kept mashing the phone with his face and it kept beeping. LOL

explaining things b/c some people are confused…?!? Both my parents are immigrants from Bangladesh. Both my husband’s parents are immigrants from Jamaica. We were both born in the U.S. which makes us Americans. I am a Bangladeshi American and identify as a brown woman of color and South Asian. My husband is Jamaican American and identifies as Black and Caribbean. It took two people to make our son. He is half Jamaican and half Bangladeshi. He is biracial, both Black and brown, both South Asian and Caribbean. I hope as he grows older no one tries to erase his heritage or deny him of his identity. My son is America and he is beautiful.

The framers of our Constitution knew that our republic would endure only if our presidents have the character and honor to put duty ahead of self interest. President Biden deserves our gratitude for his decades of service to our nation and for his courageous decision today.

President Biden has put the American people first throughout his historic career — as senator, vice president, and president. His vast record of accomplishments include the Violence Against Women Act, historic expansion of health care access, record-breaking job growth across the country and in North Carolina, bipartisan infrastructure investments that will strengthen our economy for years to come, and the most consequential clean energy legislation in history. President Biden is a true patriot.  His decision today exemplifies his commitment to always putting the country before himself. I thank him for his remarkable service to our nation.
