While we await the full facts of the investigation, it must be acknowledged that this FBI raid occurs in the broader context of President Trump’s repeated abuse of the Department of Justice to target his perceived political opponents. It should be noted that this is occurring just two weeks after Senator Lucas helped lead the successful effort by Virginia voters to reject President Trump’s attempt to rig the midterm elections. This raid on Senator Lucas’ office and businesses also comes as President Trump has pressured the Department of Justice to pursue investigations and prosecutions against New York Attorney General Letitia James, former FBI Director James Comey, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, and multiple Democratic Members of Congress. Like all Americans, Senator Lucas has a right to due process and a presumption of innocence.

Not our first rodeo with a Supreme Court determined to strip away the rights of black people: Dred Scott v Sanford, Plessy v Ferguson, Louisiana v Callais. This, too, shall pass.

The Supreme Court just finalized eradication of voting rights protections by decimating the Voting Rights Act. In this second post Reconstruction era of backlash against civil and human rights, voter suppression is only the beginning. But hear this all who believe we live in a post racial world, this decision, the SAVE Act, Project 2025, and the debacle and sham being played out on the national stage clearly show that we do not. The fear of equality, justice and inclusion is real. I not only dissent, I will not accept these attacks on democracy without a fight.

I am truly heartbroken and sad about the news regarding Justin and Cerina Fairfax. Two young people have lost their parents in the most horrific manner imaginable. What they do not need is a social media frenzy rehashing old stories, rumors and innuendo about their parents’ personal lives, etc. I know that haters are going to hate, but then you’re not godly people anyway. The family needs compassion and love. What would Jesus do?

Matthew 7:1 says: “judge not, lest ye be judged.” Interpretation: warns against hypocrisy, harsh and condemning judgement against others. Check the person in the mirror before applying judgement to anyone else, especially if you are calling yourself a Christian.

We are coming back for a special session later this month and I am still standing like a brick wall on the data center tax credit issue. Shifting electric costs on working Virginians back to data centers is the ultimate affordability issue and must be addressed.
