WATER CRISIS IN COLORADO! TWO FORKS DAM SHOULD HAVE BEEN BUILT!!! BLAME 1990-@EPA HEAD WILLIAM REILLY!!! WHO IN #DC IS HELD PERSONALLY ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR FUCK UPS? NOBODY! It was cancelled by renowned #fucknugget, William Reilly, then #BUSH41 #EPA Chief. Mr. Reilly disbelieved that Denver's MSA could grow to 2-3 million people. It's now 3.1M, but is more like +/-4.1M all inclusive from The Front Range areas covered by #EPA mandated emission testing. Denver's population has been: 1990 - 1.65M 2000 - 2.16M (looky there, 2M!) 2010 - 2.54M 2020 - 2.96M 2026 - 3.09M (looky there, 3M!) It's called a reservoir for a reason (directed at Mr. Reilly). You store in the good years, for when the bad years - like this year - happen. Two Forks' design capacity was 1,100,000 acre-feet of active storage. Imagine that capacity along with hydroelectric generation for a growing front range and #AI #DataCenter footprint! Denver Water uses between 228,000 acre-feet (2024) and some reports of 250,000-265,000 acre-feet per year (treated water sales). Hmmm...let's math here. Assuming ABSOLUTELY NOT ONE DROP of water/snow fell and there was zero evaporation, a full reservoir would have 4.15 years (using the high data point 265,000 acre-feet) of water to release without Denver missing a drop. And all with the cleanest, greenest electrical generation around aside from maybe nuclear. There are 325,851 gallons in an acre-foot. Now, one suspects that from the estimated date of operation of 2007/2008 (seems kind of long, late 1990s would be a more realistic date), over the 17/18 years - assuming 2007/2008 - that the reservoir ought to be at full capacity or, at least, a multi-year reserve capacity. However, a dumbass named William Reilly, Bush 41's head of EPA, dismissed claims that Denver's population (MSA, not city limits) could potentially double to 2-3 million by 2000 (vetoed in 1990). So, an appointed bureaucrat in DC killed a project that was first considered in the 1920s/1930s, started serious consideration in the 1970s, approved by literally all other stakeholders in DC and Colorado, by 1989, and spiked...because Denver would never grow to 2-3 million (and it did).
