Hab ein wenig die Befürchtung, sollte Belgien die USA aus dem Turnier werfen, dass Trump dann Deutschland mit Sanktionen bestraft, weil er zu dämlich ist, die Flaggen auseinanderzuhalten.

The FA is considering whether to appeal Jarell Quansah's red card from the Mexico game. I say do it. While they're at it, get Prince William to give Gianni Infantino a call too, since this is apparently how the World Cup is being run.

Americans using “Belgium should want the USA at full strength” as the excuse for Balogun playing is hilarious. The arrogance is insane. The U.S. has never won a major international trophy outside CONCACAF, yet somehow we’re supposed to believe Belgium is sitting there terrified of them? Please. This isn’t about Belgium being scared. It’s about FIFA applying the rules consistently. Stop acting like the world is begging to avoid the USMNT. That main character syndrome is exactly why people laugh.

🚨🗣️ José Mourinho on FIFA overturning Folarin Balogun's red card following Donald Trump's intervention: "Everyone is acting so shocked today. Everyone is crying about politics and Donald Trump making phone calls to Gianni Infantino to change the rules. But why are we surprised? The integrity of this tournament was thrown in the trash in the very first week. All this started when FIFA let Lionel Messi escape a clear red card for a studs-up challenge. When you decide that the rules do not apply to the poster boy, you open the door for everyone else. If the referee's monitor can be ignored for Argentina's captain to protect the brand, why can't a suspension be ignored for the United States President? Folarin Balogun gets a red card, Trump makes a call, and suddenly FIFA finds a magic 'Article 27' to let him play against Belgium. It is a circus. We are no longer watching a World Cup, we are watching a political reality show where the rulebook is just a suggestion based on who you are and who is watching."

I’ll leave it here, but I find it astonishing that American colleagues I respect, in sports and beyond, are either celebrating or minimizing what should be obvious: overt political interference in a disciplinary decision at a World Cup is unethical, unacceptable and profoundly dangerous. Whatever one thinks of Balogun and the red card itself, the debate is now beyond it and precedent is indefensible. The integrity of the tournament depends on the idea that what happens on the field is judged by the rules of the game, not by pressure from political power. To celebrate this is...baffling.

@AnnBaptist It's win at all cost. Bribing, cheating, favoritism... that is the sickening sports mentality in Trump's USA.

Kan iemand mij uitleggen waarom Amerikanen de interventie van Trump wel oké vinden? Wat is er mis met dat volk? Is het een gebrek aan hersenen, fair-play of iets anders?

The way American fans are reacting online speaks so much about them as a culture. They really do see themselves as exceptional, and that they're above the rules.

🚨 José Mourinho on the overturned red card for Folarin Balogun: “Why? Because they’re the hosts? What is this nonsense? In football, these decisions must be the same for everyone. If the red card is a red card, it stays a red card. People don’t like to admit it, but sometimes where you come from changes how you’re treated. Tell me honestly—does that decision get overturned if the player represents Ghana or Paraguay? I don’t think so. The rules should be the same for every nation.”

Iran couldn’t get visas. They didn’t intervene. A Somalian referee couldn’t get a visa. They didn’t intervene. Fans of Muslim countries couldn’t get a visa. They didn’t intervene. Ronaldo got a red card. Intervened. USA player got a red card. Intervened. F*** FIFA. Corrupt.

Just to be clear, then. FIFA: 1) can't possibly intervene when Iran are forced to move, a referee is denied a visa, or fans are barred from the USA 2) can absolutely intervene when a decision goes against the USA that Donald Trump doesn't like Smashing. All know where we stand

@SkySportsNews Disgraceful decision yes, but I am not surprised. Disgraceful IS a perfect word to describe Infantino's FIFA.

USA hero Folarin Balogun will be available to face Belgium after FIFA suspended his one-match ban for a year. Under FIFA rule 10.5, Balogun was given a one-match ban and was set to miss Tuesday's last-16 clash with Belgium 🚨
