Guillermo del Toro on Thomas Vinterberg's "Another Round" (2020): "It’s extraordinary to see a movie that moves you, that affects you, the way this one did to me. I wanted to say something: The title in Danish [‘Druk’], and the title in English, both are very, very beautiful. In English, it’s because ‘Another Round’ means all these characters are going to get another round at life, and the other is about binge-drinking, the original title, but it is the same thing: Can we get intoxicated with life? Can we take it again? The final scene is one of the most extraordinary things I’ve seen on film ever. It truly captures something that is lightning in a bottle." No se junte con esos vividores que zigzaguean requete fácil, presidenta. Le entregan su país a los nazis mientras se cuelgan de cargos que nosotros, de buena fe, promovemos.

The 1970s formations of The Ramones in NYC and the Sex Pistols in London led to an explosion of the punk, goth, and emo countercultures which eventually spread into Mexico. By 2008, these decades of subcultural evolution hit a breaking point in Mexico City, sparking a massive street brawl between 'traditional' Punks and 'new' Emos over the soul of the aesthetic. In a finale as surreal as the conflict itself, the war was only stopped when a group of Hare Krishnas marched into the middle of the riot, subduing the angry teenagers with chants, drums, and flowers proving that the only thing more powerful than a subculture feud is a well-timed tambourine.

"Los cronistas españoles de tiempos de la conquista no habían mentido" is untrue Spanish accounts claimed the Huey Tzompantli held many more skulls then it did: Duran claimed it held ~80,000, Tapia claimed it held 136,000 The actual rack held ~16,000 See below for details ----- To clarify, the full Huey Tzompantli complex included two towers, as well as a rack, all on a raised platform. See the attached image. You may have seen a total of ~600+ skulls come up in media reports about the excavations of the Tzompantli: As far as I can tell this ~600+ skull total is just the number of the skulls excavated from a portion of one of the two towers (though a friend of mine alternatively understood ~600 skull total to be the total amount of skulls contained in one of the two towers). In any case, it is almost certainly NOT the total amount of skulls the entire structure complex contained, which held much more. To demonstrate this, we can plug in the dimensions of the rack as reported in media articles (roughly 36x14x5m, as seen in the attached image, though the exact dimensions vary slightly from article to article) into the tables in this: researchgate.net/publication/22… paper, which calculates the amount of skulls per cubic meter racks of different sizes can hold If you run that math, it comes out to 13,000 to 24,000 skulls, based on a few variables, but if you narrow it down by also factoring in the rack having a 25cm posthole every 80cm, as reported in this paper: static1.squarespace.com/static/6148cc8… , then that comes out to around ~16,000 skulls However, there are still some points of ambiguity: Obviously there is a margin of error still, and this does not include the skull totals from the twin skull towers It is also unclear (at least as I recall) if the dimensions we have for the Tzompantli is for just the "rack", or the entire Tzompantli "platform": If it is for the platform, then only a smaller subset of that area would be used to hold skulls, so the amount of skulls would be lower, if so. On the other hand, some media reports seem to list the ~5m height of the rack as merely being the minimum height , and if so then obviously the amount of skulls the rack can hold would be larger. HOWEVER, even if the whole Huey Tzompantli complex holds, say, 20,000+ skulls (16,000 for the rack and a few thousand more for the towers, though that number is my speculation), that is still MUCH smaller then what Spanish accounts claim it held! Again, Diego Duran claimed that ~80,000 people were sacrificed in the 1487 reconceretion of the Great Temple, and had their remains used to build the new Huey Tzompantli, and that this was preformed as part of Ahuizotl's rise to the position of emperor (and indeed, many of the deposits to the Huey Tzompantli are dated to Ahuizotl's reign) Of course, ~20,000 skulls is only 1/4 that size. So clearly, Duran's numbers are inflated and inaccurate. Andres de Tapia claims even more exaggerated numbers, his account claims the rack held 136,000 skulls! To be fair, Tapia was describing the Huey Tzompantli as it existed at the time of Spanish contact, and that may have been a different, now destroyed rack, but I find it unlikely the new rack's size would jump from from ~16,000-20,000+ skulls or such to 136,000 like that ----- If you want to see more posts of mine about Mesoamerican history and archeology, I have a large directory of my posts here: x.com/Majora__Z/stat…
