Police in Balod district have arrested a 59-year-old landlord for allegedly raping his young tenant over several years and later giving her a tablet that caused the deaths of both the woman and her unborn child. According to police, Sunil Kumar Gharde, a resident of Daundiloha in Balod, rented out part of his house to a 22-year-old woman, her mother, and siblings. The family, which lacked a father figure and relied on the mother's earnings, paid a modest rent of around ₹1,500 per month. Investigators allege that Gharde exploited the family's vulnerable position and repeatedly sexually assaulted the young woman over a prolonged period—reportedly nearly three years. The victim became pregnant as a result. In an apparent attempt to conceal the crime as the pregnancy advanced (around the ninth month or during labour), Gharde allegedly gave the woman a tablet, claiming it was medicine or painkillers. Shortly after consuming it, both the 22-year-old and her newborn died within approximately 15 minutes. The case came to light after the deaths, with police launching an investigation. Gharde was arrested following DNA evidence linking him to the pregnancy. He reportedly confessed during questioning. Authorities also examined his YouTube search history, which allegedly contained queries that raised suspicions. Gharde has been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for rape, causing death, and other charges. He is currently in judicial custody. The incident has sparked outrage in the area, highlighting issues of exploitation of economically vulnerable tenants, especially women in fatherless or low-income households. Police have described it as a shocking case of abuse of power by a landlord. Further details, including the exact nature of the tablet, are under investigation. The victim's family has been provided support, and the probe is ongoing.

Two years ago, I had bronchitis. Due to antibiotics, I developed stomach ache, was asked to get hospitalized. No fever, oxygen above normal. Just coughing & stomach ache (that subsided within hours of injection). I asked doctor to discharge me & the doctor would scare me by saying "Abhi discharge kar diya toh do din mein wapis hospitalize karna padega". I was kept hospitalized for 5 days (his plan was longer, I literally begged for a discharge). Then doctor kept medicating me for around 1.5 months with steroids & various other medications which would cause me more side effects without helping me much. One day I decided to just not continue the treatment and I recovered on my own in a week. The side effects were fairly permanent. Eventually I went to another doctor who said I was over-medicated. Ofc it will be next to impossible to claim medical negligence in this country and this isnt against medical community as such but what Dr Priyam says isnt wrong.
