Your logic can be used to dismiss individual prayer as well—the Bible says he already knows the words we are going to say. In fact, he knows what we need before we can even know or say. Why pray then? But we see examples of both individual/group.

@Servant_Musings @gtlpguanthwei @jimstinson @Pontifex We see corporate prayer in Heaven. All of Heaven rejoices when one sinner on earth repents (Luke 15:7) because the Saints witness us as we complete our race here on earth, cheering us on (Hebrews 12:1-3).

Do you not feel comfortable being a part of a local body of believers in prayer together? Or something else?

I think its hard to understand why or how it works, but the Bible has so many examples of “corporate” prayer being a driver of action from God—both in the OT and NT. Again—I agree that it doesn’t really make sense, but we see that pattern often in the Bible.

@DatPolySciGuy @Servant_Musings @jimstinson @Pontifex Praying for others is no necessary if those others are praying for themselves. It's simply an act of love and kindness, but offers no real benefit spiritually. Jesus isn't going to prioritize one person because 10 others prayed for that person. We are all His children equally.

@DatPolySciGuy @gtlpguanthwei @jimstinson @Pontifex That’s a strange argument. There are many things the NT says to do that would make absolutely no sense “to do” in heaven. You cant just extrapolate based on that. God is very clear about prayer. Let’s not overthink it and add human imagination, desires, or traditions to it.

@gtlpguanthwei @DatPolySciGuy @jimstinson @Pontifex Where did I say that? Obviously they are. I am saying they are not in the business of receiving prayers and interceding for those on earth. Romans 8 specifically lays out how Jesus and the Holy Spirit intercede on our behalf, however.

@danny_toma @jimstinson @Pontifex No believer on the other side of eternity intercedes for those on earth. It’s nonsense.

If I ask my brother or sister to pray for me, whether they are here on earth or in heaven, I am asking them to intercede for me through Jesus Christ. There is no requirement that I ask for the prayers of others, but it is a reminder that, as Christians, we are part of a community of saints and not just individual automatons with no connection to anyone else.

@DatPolySciGuy @gtlpguanthwei @jimstinson @Pontifex Asking others on this side of eternity to pray to God with you is a real and impactful thing. Pretending other “saints” no longer on Earth can intercede is simply not real.

@gtlpguanthwei @jimstinson @Pontifex You could say the exact same thing about asking family, friends, and neighbors for their prayers. Why ask others to pray for you when you can just go to God?

@feelsdesperate No idea but its been happening for a long time across a variety of things. Clinate change may be happening, but it has nothing to do with humans, and its certainly not existential. I wouldn’t spend one second worrying about it. Cheers!

This was an oddly controversial post. Apparently, the requirement to be a White American is to allow people to make your house filthy and its third world coded to have clean floors. "How does a sneaker scratch a floor?" questions left me questioning if they're trolling. Wiping your feet isn't going to remove any abbressive medium that is getting dragged in from outside. It's not getting rid of the rock salt that's now going to be crushed all over the floor. Why wouldn't you want the floors in your home to stay nice? "It's not a heckin' western pioneer homestead!"

@dvorstone I don’t view it as a holiday like others, but just a time for reflection/projection. Best change I’ve made in recent years is not getting hammered on NYE! So refreshing!

New Year's Day is the worst holiday. It has no tradition, activities, or meaning. It's pointless except as a recovery day for the hungover. No one actually enjoys this day and there's nothing to even celebrate. You can't even work or be productive because everything is closed. I hate it and if you disagree, I hate you.

I’ve often wondered what it must be like to go through life as a mildly retarded person. The world must feel like a confusing and threatening place most of the time but you’d end up with isolated moments of pure childlike wonder like this.
