This video is from Uttarakhand, India Shahid, an elderly Muslim man, was offering namaz in a field when Arvind Sharma arrived and started beating the elderly man with a stick and abusing him. Shahid tried explaining that he had been working as a labourer close by and would come to the vacant land to offer namaz, but the abuses continued. Such incidents involving unprovoked targetting of minorities have been on the rise in recent times.

Look at the audacity of Muhammad Yunus. Says, Today is the birth of new Bangladesh. After allowing Islamist radicals to erase memory of 1971 liberation and kill minority Hindus and ban Awami League, he wants to give new Islamist identity to Bangladesh. Radical in garb of liberal.

Today, I raised my concerns on Bangladesh. With elections looming, the Awami League are still banned. I am also horrified to see that Hindu's are murdered and their temples burned. I called on the Govt to act to protect minorities and ensure free and fair elections.

সংযুক্ত পাসপোর্টের তথ্য অনুযায়ী এটি ইস্যু করেছে তুরস্ক এবং সেই সূত্রে একুশে পদকে ভূষিত জনাব মাহমুদুর রহমান তুরস্কের নাগরিক। কিছুদিন আগেও এই পাসপোর্ট ব‍্যবহার করে তিনি ভ্রমণ করেছেন। যে কারণে এই পোস্টটি করা, তা হলো, ঠিক কোন পদ্ধতিতে তিনি তুরস্কের নাগরিকত্ব পেয়েছেন? এটি পাওয়ার জন্য তিনি কত কোটি টাকা ব্যয় করেছিলেন? আর অর্থ ব‍্যয় না করলে কেন বা কি কারণে তুরস্ক সরকার তাকে দেশটির নাগরিকত্ব দিয়েছে? আমার দেশ সম্পাদক ও নিজেকে মাজলুম সাংবাদিক দাবি করা মাহমুদুর রহমান বাংলাদেশি নাগরিক হিসেবে ২০১৮ সালে মালয়েশিয়া যাবার পর থেকে ২০২৪ এ তুরস্কের নাগরিক হিসেবে দেশে ফেরার আগ পর্যন্ত বিভিন্ন দেশে থাকলেও কোথাও কোন চাকরি বা অর্থনৈতিকভাবে লাভজনক কোন কাজকর্ম তিনি করেন নাই বলে জানা যায়। ধরে নেয়া যায় এই সময় তার খরচের টাকার উৎস ছিল জমানো অর্থ বা তার পরিবার এবং কাছের মানুষরা। কিন্তু ২০২০ সালে তুরস্কের নাগরিকত্ব পাওয়ার জন্যে যে পরিমাণ অর্থ বিনিয়োগ করতে হয় সেটা কি তিনি বৈধ চ‍্যানেলে বাংলাদেশ হতে নিয়েছেন? নাকি কোন বিশেষ সংস্থা বা গোষ্ঠী তাকে এই পাসপোর্টটি পুরস্কার হিসেবে প্রদান করেছে? বাংলাদেশ থেকে পাসপোর্টে বিনিয়োগের জন্যে কোটি-কোটি টাকা বিদেশে পাঠানোর কোন সুযোগ নেই। তাহলে কোন পদ্ধতিতে ওনার কাছে এত টাকা টাকা পাঠানো হয়েছিলো? হুন্ডি করে? অন্যদের দুর্নীতির সবক দেওয়া এই সত্যবাদী যুধিষ্ঠির তাহলে কি দুর্নীতির আশ্রয় নিয়ে হুন্ডি করে দেশের অর্থ বিদেশে পাচার করেছেন? আশা করি মাহমুদুর রহমান এই বিষয়গুলো খোলাসা করবেন।

Simply by agreeing to accept the offer to lead Bangladesh’s interim government, Professor Yunus became public enemy number one for the Awami League and its supporters in India. If the Modi Government had simply reciprocated Yunus’ initial desire to reframe the relationship post-Hasina, so much of the ill will that currently exists could have been avoided. The responsibility for the decline in the relationship lies primarily with New Delhi. With its current embrace of Tarique Rahman, India is setting itself up for disappointment post-election. Even if the BNP forms the next government, India will have to climb its way out of the hole it has dug over the past 17 years. No government in Dhaka will be able to give India what it came to expect from Hasina, particularly given public opinion about Indo-Bangladesh relations. Time and again the mistake India has made in Bangladesh has been to put too much importance on personalities and not base bilateral relations on mutual interest.

BNP working chief Tarique Rahman reaches Dhaka after a 17-year exile. It was Sheikh Hasina’s grave mistake to deny BNP any political space. She has paid a very heavy price for that. Hope Tarique, likely to sweep Bangladesh polls, won’t repeat that mistake by banning Awami League.
