Mayor Zohran Mamdani is pushing a new proposed 1% surcharge on all-cash home purchases over $1 million in NYC. Cash buyers would owe thousands extra at closing — on top of already punishing costs and taxes. Instead of fixing housing affordability, critics say this will scare off investors, slow the market, and push even more people out of the city. And here’s the bigger concern — Gov. Kathy Hochul wants to expand this exact cash-purchase tax statewide across all of New York. Taxing your way to prosperity has never worked. Another reason to leave NY? (Video: AI)

Yes, it does seem that I am missing something. A 1% surcharge on $2 myn purchase is $20,000. Recording fees for a $50,000 mortgage are estimated at $1,000. The rest of the closing fees would be much less than $19,000. Getting the mortgage might be the "hassle" factor for people with complex finances so they would pay the surcharge. Also, this is another way to charge overseas buyers of NYC real estate.

@ShadyBias @Bubblebathgirl Because the seller would still be better off paying the 1% tax than incurring all the expenses related to a mortgage? IDK just a guess. (Otherwise the tax would be higher? Pretty sure they already figured out how high they could go without backlash)

Many years ago, my parents property that they had owned for 20 years, was rezoned by the town from residential to commercial. This effected all of the houses on the road. The zoning allowed the current occupants to use their properties as a residence but, once they died or left, the properties could not be used as residences. In a flash, people's lives were changed and their plans abandoned. Now when I go back to where my parents lived, the road that once had families now has abandoned buildings in disrepair. Investors are buying properties cheap and waiting for the rest of the residents to die.

I am very sorry to hear that. I have not seen any posts regarding the lack of these types of services available in Minnesota. My point is if the total billed cost of certain services went up substantially over the past few years because of fraud, the amount allocated to these services could be reduced to reflect the elimination of fraud.

@ShadyBias @intorabbitholes @DrOzCMS Everybody's complaining about the unavailability of services My MIL was scheduled for medical transport after a heart attack... the van never showed up. Why? Because the medical transport company doesn't even have any running vans, yet they still bill for multiple runs a day

Today, CMS notified Governor Walz and the state of Minnesota that we are deferring an additional $91 million in federal Medicaid funding. This follows a pattern we can’t ignore. From the “Learing Center” scandal to the recent DOJ action involving childcare centers, Minnesota’s Medicaid program has shown serious vulnerabilities to fraud. These are not isolated breakdowns—they point to systemic issues that must be addressed. Here’s the reality: the federal government funds roughly half of Medicaid. That gives CMS both the authority and the responsibility to ensure those dollars are spent legally and appropriately. When they’re not, we act. Earlier this year, after auditing Q4 FY2025 billing, we deferred over $250 million. Of the $91 million deferred: • $76 million is tied to 14 service categories highly vulnerable to fraud • $14 million involves program integrity concerns, including payments for ineligible individuals We’re giving Governor Walz as much support as we can to turn this around. However, we cannot and will not pay bad bills so we’re asking for more information from Minnesota to verify these bills. CMS will continue using every tool available to protect Medicaid’s integrity—because this program must serve the most vulnerable Americans, while honoring the trust of taxpayers. More updates to come. As always, I’m grateful to @VP’s leadership as CMS plays its part in the whole-of-government effort to root out fraud.

Since the money was going for services not provided, for example paying for child care, and no one complained that child care services were not available, were the service actually needed or was the need for the child care services created by the swindler? No need to pay the $71 million to Minnesota if no services provided.

New Jersey realtor says her client has to pay a $185K transfer tax on a home they’re selling for $4 million. In simple terms, that $185K is the government’s “cut” for updating the public record to show who owns the property. If her client were moving out of state, they would also pay what’s often called the New Jersey Exit Tax. The state withholds 2% to make sure you don’t leave without paying any taxes due on the sale. New Jersey’s so-called “mansion tax” has also changed: the original 1% flat tax on homes over $1M has been replaced by a tiered system, paid by the seller, increasing by 0.5% for every additional $500K. As one observer rightly noted, that money could have remained in the hands of individuals, as a salary, a raise, or startup capital, to fuel real economic growth, create jobs, and build wealth from the bottom up. Instead, it’s seized through taxation and funneled through politicians and bureaucrats, who allocate it to social programs and pet projects with little accountability. History shows these initiatives are riddled with undetected waste, fraud, and inefficiency, often delivering minimal benefits to those they’re supposed to help while expanding government control.

What was the reason that Ilhan Omar listed her assets higher than actual? I don't get what Ilhan Omar did illegal other than listing wrong numbers on her disclosures. Is the inference that the winery was a money laundering entity? Is there money somewhere that isn't being accounted for?

We were right. Ilhan Omar owns a fake winery, and she just dissolved it after she got caught. She originally estimated her assets between $6 million and $30 million in her 2025 financial disclosure due to the fraudulent winery. She just filed an amendment slashing it down to just $95,000 and blaming an "accounting error." She clearly committed fraud against the federal government with her financial disclosure. When will she be kicked out of Congress? George Santos was kicked out for a lesser offense. Republicans need to do the same to Omar. The DOJ is also looking into her. She should be locked up after getting kicked out.

Mayor Mamdani says there’ll be “an essential basket of goods” at his city-run grocery stores that will be priced noticeably lower than at other supermarkets. We’ve already seen this strategy before. We know what it results in. And none of it is good. Get ready for long lines, poor customer service, and operating at a loss. This will also hurt bodegas and smaller grocery stores. Mamdani is essentially using tax dollars to drive mom-and-pop businesses out of business. That’s socialism for you. (abc7ny on TT)

Mayor Mamdani announces he’s instituting more of his systemic racism against people in New York City who aren’t black or brown. He says today’s true cost of living measure is the first step in his racial equity plan, which is supposed to ultimately reduce the disparities in wealth, housing, and city services. Mamdani says “black and brown New Yorkers are hit the hardest” by the affordability crisis and that his racial equity plan will be a “whole of government approach” to solve “decades of neglect and discrimination.” He says “it places the work of 45 city agencies within a singular framework.” The reality is Mamdani is implementing blatantly racist policies that reward and punish people based on their skin color. Whoever becomes the new U.S. Attorney General needs to immediately prosecute Mamdani for his clearly discriminatory and unconstitutional governing. (WesternLensman on 𝕏)

𝐀𝐏𝐎𝐋𝐋𝐎 𝐄𝐘𝐄𝐒 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐄𝐗𝐈𝐓 𝐀𝐒 𝐌𝐀𝐌𝐃𝐀𝐍𝐈 𝐃𝐄𝐂𝐋𝐀𝐑𝐄𝐒 𝐖𝐀𝐑 𝐎𝐍 𝐖𝐀𝐋𝐋 𝐒𝐓𝐑𝐄𝐄𝐓 Apollo Global Management — a $𝟗𝟎𝟎 𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 asset manager — is plotting a second U.S. headquarters in the Sunbelt as New York’s democratic socialist mayor pushes to soak big business with tax hikes to plug a $𝟓.𝟒 𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐛𝐮𝐝𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐞. Leaders have already polled partners and managing directors on where they’d rather relocate their families and bonuses: 𝐓𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐬 𝐨𝐫 𝐅𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐚. Both have zero state income tax. Steve Fulop, president and CEO of the Partnership for New York City, framed it bluntly: “𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘤𝘢𝘯’𝘵 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘦 𝘣𝘶𝘥𝘨𝘦𝘵 𝘢𝘧𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘣𝘶𝘥𝘨𝘦𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘷𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘦𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘰𝘺𝘦𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘣𝘦 𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘥𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘥𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘨𝘰 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘦𝘭𝘴𝘦.” Apollo isn’t just opening a satellite office. According to a statement from the firm, 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐟𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐮𝐛 — not Manhattan. That’s not hedging. That’s a company telling New York it’s already lost the next generation of jobs. Florida has already poached heavyweights like 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐥 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐄𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐭𝐭 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭. Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan are building out in Texas. The pattern is unmistakable — and Mamdani is accelerating it. He’s pushed Governor Hochul and the state legislature to hike corporate taxes and raise rates on the wealthy. When Albany didn’t move fast enough, he threatened homeowners with a 𝟗.𝟓% 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐲 𝐭𝐚𝐱 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 — a plan that arrived dead on arrival because even the City Council wouldn’t back it. Meanwhile, Hizzoner was coy last week about how his administration plans to deliver on $𝟏.𝟕 𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐬𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬, telling New Yorkers they might have to wait until the executive budget drops in late April to see anything concrete. Translation: he has no plan. Fulop’s closer was the sharpest line in the piece: “𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘳𝘰𝘸𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘬𝘦𝘦𝘱𝘴 𝘥𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘣𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘢𝘴 𝘢 𝘧𝘭𝘢𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘯. BREAKING: It is being reported by @shellenberger that @joekent16jan19 agreed to contact Tyler Robinson’s legal defense team and said he would testify in support of Robinson, the man who assassinated Charlie Kirk. I called it. Absolutely diabolical. I said Kent was aiding Tyler Robinson’s defense and jeopardizing the trial. Joe Kent is so obsessed with blaming Israel that he is now aiding Charlie’s assassin because he wants to push the lie that Israel killed Charlie Kirk. I called it. @shellenberger
Laura Loomer tweet media
Laura Loomer@LauraLoomer

One of the most insidious qualities about Joe Kent @joekent16jan19 is that he chose to not do his job as the Director of the National Counter terrorism center based off of his own conspiracies and anti-Jewish biases. When Charlie Kirk was assassinated, it was reported that Tyler Robinson and his trans lover were in a discord chat with ANTIFA like individuals who were tied to a Palestinian and Trans militia that pushed LGBTQ individuals to get trained in firearms to “kill fascists”. We were told 20 people were inside this Discord chat. Then, we never heard about it again. Shortly after Charlie was assassinated, President Trump directed his administration to start arresting members of ANTIFA and locating ANTIFA terror cells after President Trump designated ANTIFA as a terrorist organization. This would have fallen under Joe Kent to take action as the Director of the National Counter Terrorism center, but we haven’t seen any substantial crackdown on ANTIFA or any of the Islamic jihadists groups in America who openly plot acts of terror on US soil because going after those people and the ANTIFA discord chats that we were told Tyler Robinson was a member of would have shattered Kent’s conspiracy theory about how Israel supposedly assassinated Charlie Kirk because he opposed the war in Iran. On @marklevinshow’s show last night, Kent was asked what evidence he had for this claim, and he stuttered because he didn’t have any. He made it up. Show me a single ANTIFA terror cell or Palestinian terror cell on US soil that has been broken up under Kent’s “leadership”. You can’t. Because he refused to do his job. He has endangered the lives of Americans and has now tainted a federal investigation, and don’t think that Tyler Robinson’s lawyers aren’t going to use Kent’s lies as a way to say the investigation was tainted. We already know Kent and @Kash_Patel had a fight because Kent was trying to exploit and share FBI files he wasn’t supposed to have access to. He was called out by Kash for trying to leak these documents to podcasters, and other sources at the FBI have confirmed this to me. Tyler Robinson might even walk if the Jury is able to be convinced that Kent tainted the evidence or that Kent said a foreign actor was involved when they weren’t, since he is a government official. It’s incredibly dangerous for America that we had a Neo Nazi sympathizer as the Director of the National Counter Terrorism Center who refused to crack down on actual threats of terrorism so he could launch his podcast career off the backs of Holocaust deniers and Sharia sympathizers. I predict many Amercians will be killed by terrorists in the homeland because Joe Kent failed to do his job. He should be locked up. His dereliction of duty is going to get Amercians killed. And Tyler Robinson’s defense will use Kent’s insane conspiracies to argue for Robinson’s innocence. Kent claims he is Charlie’s friend but when you think about it, Kent is aiding Charlie’s assassin. Kent may be the reason why Robinson doesn’t get the death penalty. It’s jury tampering when you think about it. Kent is a very evil man. He was totally exposed on @marklevinshow’s show last night.
