Reminder that @PhoenixRises_24 has made its submission to Minister Foley on #Safeguarding Reform. We need the necessary processes and failsafes in place for vulnerable adults. These points would bring us in line with #UNCRPD compliance.

@ShadySparrow @Independent_ie Very true but there is at least acknowledgement that services SHOULD exist for kids and teenagers I think but adults with disabilities and their families are largely forgotten.

@ConorJCallaghan @Independent_ie CDNTs are still mostly empty of therapists unfortunately. We are seeing children graduate without timely interventions & left to fall off that metaphorical cliff edge.

@Independent_ie This is the worry of all families of disabled people. Services for young people may be improving but tend to fall off a cliff edge then at a certain point. Parents need respite services at all stages but ‘what happens when I’m gone’ shouldn’t be keeping parents awake at night

Ongoing Scoliosis Scandal Why do we tolerate the cruelty being inflicted on children by CHI? A DISTRAUGHT mother and father have urged Health Minister Jennifer Carroll MacNeill to help save their only son's life - ✍️ Valerie Hanley Michael and Penny Henry's eldest child Mikey has a rare neurological condition as well as scoliosis. And the 17-year-old's spine has become so curved it is almost three times worse than the optimum to benefit from surgery. The best outcomes are if the spine has not curved beyond 45 degrees. But the curvature of the Mayo teenager's spine has already reached 130 degrees. Waiting Lists According to the most recent figures, the total number of children awaiting surgery has not changed with 241 in February 2025, and exactly the same 12 months later. #CHI #MikeyHenry #Scoliosis #BackUs #PublicInquiryCHi @IrishMailSunday

Entrusting @CHI_Ireland with a children's hospital after leaving disabled children to suffer and die untimely deaths due to mismanagement is #StructuralViolence and we don't have to accept it.

I am sobbing today. Tomorrow we go back into CHI. Analla came into me and handed me these pages and asks if its ok to bring into the surgeon tomorrow. We had the body shapes printed to help communication when she couldn't verbalise pain after surgery. Writing hurts her hands. Words are a struggle. There is no purer way for her to ask her CHI surgeon for help and follow up care. Its not me. Its not my husband. Its not an Advocacy group. Its not an inquiry. Its a child. Asking for no pain.

@TiocfaidhArLa66 And we just realised that we are in there tomorrow. Exactly 2 years....to the day..8th April 2024...when we were seen urgently after my complaint but then told 'we've missed the window to brace'. 'We' hadn't missed anything. CHI had.

After 17 years, the family of Maria Fitzpatrick has finally received an apology and vindication. Maria died at just 36 from undiagnosed cervical cancer, leaving behind her husband Kevin and four young sons. The tragedy was compounded years later when her son Darren, who never fully recovered from the loss of his "mammy," died by suicide at 19. Despite a grueling legal battle that Kevin describes as "re-traumatising," the family has finally seen the HSE and Portiuncula University Hospital acknowledge the "missed opportunity" that cost Maria her life. They spent nearly two decades battling a cold bureaucratic system that forced them to rehash their trauma through endless reports and court dates, only to receive a letter of apology that wasn't even read aloud by the state. "A piece of paper doesn’t bring back a mother... but we got the vindication for Maria." #JusticeForMaria #CervicalCheck #HSE #Apology independent.ie/irish-news/wer…

110 years ago on Easter Sunday the Irish Proclamation was first printed. It guarantees equal rights and opportunities and to cherish all the children of the nation *equally*. Yet unfortunately 110 years on and our government continues to fail to uphold this. We see time and time again that we are not being treated as equals. People with disabilities continue to be forced in to poverty, children are being neglected in our health system, we have thousands of children living in homelessness, but our government continues to turn a blind eye and give the biggest helping hand to multinational corporations. Today we remember the brave women and men that came before us and that fought for us to have an Ireland where we are all given the treatment and respect and opportunities we deserve and that is free from partition 🇮🇪 #EasterSunday
