Seven High Courts have no representation in the Supreme Court, covering nearly 10.5 crore people. Nine High Courts have never produced a Chief Justice of India, while Bombay alone accounts for 10 CJIs and about 19 years of tenure, nearly 25 percent of the Court’s history.

The SC currently has a strength of 32 judges, with at least four judges expected to retire in 2026. One retired last month. The cabinet’s decision to increase strength from 34 to 38 means at least 9 recommendations this year for CJI Surya Kant’s Collegium!

#SupremeCourt comes down hard on the Orissa HC & trial courts for requiring accused persons - mostly tribals and Dalits, to clean police stations as a bail condition. #CJI calls these stipulations inhuman, degrading, abhorrent, directing no such terms can be set in future.

No matter how perverse an order may be, a political party leader cannot openly call for a boycott of a constitutional court. The proper course is to challenge it before the Supreme Court of India. This is going to set an adverse precedent.

In all humility and with complete respect for judiciary, I have written the following letter to Justice Swarna Kanta Sharma, informing her that pursuing Gandhian principles of Satyagraha, it won’t be possible for me to pursue this case in her court, either in person or through a counsel. I have taken this difficult decision after coming to the clear conclusion that the proceedings being conducted in her court do not, in any manner, satisfy the fundamental principle that ‘justice must not only be done but must also be seen to be done’. My participation in these proceedings, either myself or through a counsel will not achieve anything meaningful.
