@mikiebarb @jeligon Another thing that was not stressed was police in schools - fueling the school to prison pipeline. I found this particular episode profoundly disappointing. John Oliver does a better job of explaining it. youtu.be/Wf4cea5oObY

@BreeNewsome Anti-blackness happens all the time in the Black community and is common among descendants of the African Diaspora in the Caribbean and Latin America. It’s important to address it if we’re going to fight for liberation.

No one is immune to internalizing these racist constructs. They are pervasive in people’s understanding of how the white-black racial binary operates in the USA, which is why this keeps having to be said & we keep having to fight against historical erasure.

Black Americans are a distinct ethnic group & not solely a racial category. I’ll keep saying it for as long as folks engage in our ethnic & historical erasure, pretending we aren’t a distinct culture while continually appropriating & capitalizing off of our experience. 🤗💕

@KeeangaYamahtta Another banger - The crises in this country cannot be resolved one person at a time, and recipes for self-fulfillment cannot create the social forces necessary to transform neighborhoods.

@KeeangaYamahtta Favorite 3 - When unmoored from the institutions of power and class domination, racism becomes impossible to address, combat, and dismantle.

@KeeangaYamahtta Favorite 2 - Becoming normalizes power and the status quo while sending the message that the rest of us only need to find our place in the existing social hierarchy to be happy. 🔥🔥🔥

@KeeangaYamahtta Favorite 1 - “Her story is a celebration of personal fulfillment—the kind of self-involved, “live your truth”-inspired homilies that middle-class and rich women tell each other.”

@UWIalumnionline @HilaryBeckles I’ve been following Sandy Darity and am an admirer of his work. I’m curious if there is a scholar pushing the case for reparations among Caribbean nations in the same way as he is. The caricom Twitter is dormant
