The Four Saints of the Impossible Causes When life throws you a challenge that feels completely hopeless, when every door seems slammed shut and prayer feels like shouting into the void: these four heavenly intercessors are the ones, the faithful have turned to for centuries. Meet the powerful quartet : . St. Rita of Cascia, . St. Jude Thaddeus, . St. Philomena, and . St. Gregory Thaumaturgus (the Wonderworker). They’re known in the Catholic Church, as the patrons of impossible, desperate, and lost causes. 1. St. Rita of Cascia... The Saint of the Impossible A 15th-century Italian wife, mother, widow, and Augustinian nun, Rita endured an abusive marriage, her husband’s violent murder, and the tragic deaths of her two sons. Yet she chose forgiveness over revenge and miraculously entered the convent against all odds. She’s famous for the thorn from Christ’s crown embedded in her forehead and for making a rose bloom in the dead of winter. If your situation looks utterly impossible, St. Rita is the one who specializes in “no way out” miracles. 2. St. Jude Thaddeus... Patron of Hopeless Causes One of Jesus’ twelve apostles (often called “Jude the Obscure” to avoid confusion with Judas Iscariot), he carried the image of Christ and preached the Gospel fearlessly. Because people hesitated to invoke his name, he became the go-to saint for the most desperate cases, the ones everyone else had given up on In the painting, you see him holding that sacred medallion and his staff, ready to intercede when hope has run dry. 3. St. Philomena.... The Wonder-Working Virgin Martyr A young girl from the early Church who refused marriage to a Roman emperor and was martyred for her faith, Philomena is depicted here with her flower crown and lily (symbols of purity and innocence). After her relics were discovered in 1802, an explosion of miracles followed,so many that she earned the title “Wonder Worker.” She’s invoked for impossible healings, protection, and breakthroughs in seemingly incurable situations. Her story reminds us that even the smallest, forgotten souls can move mountains through God’s grace. 4. St. Gregory Thaumaturgus (Gregory of Neocaesarea).... The Miracle Worker Bishop A 3rd-century bishop known as “Thaumaturgus” (Wonderworker) for his astonishing miracles, Gregory converted almost his entire pagan city through the power of prayer alone. He’s the bearded bishop in the miter on the right, crosier in hand, blessing the faithful. When spiritual battles feel unwinnable or entire communities need conversion and healing, St. Gregory steps in as the expert in the “impossible. ”These four don’t just listen, they deliver. Countless people have testified to answered prayers after turning to them in their darkest hours. If you’re carrying a burden that feels too heavy, light a candle, say a simple prayer, and ask for their intercession. Which of these saints have you turned to in tough times?

🇵🇭 A Citizen’s Cry for Dignity in Healthcare By Dr. Tony Leachon Today, a concerned citizen shared with me a heartbreaking video from East Avenue Medical Center. Under the scorching heat, she waited over four hours just to access free medicine through the Yakap program. The lines were long, the process slow, and the suffering visible—especially among our seniors and persons with disabilities. This is not an isolated case. This is the daily reality in many government hospitals. We must speak truth to power: • The Department of Health under Secretary Herbosa has failed to deliver dignified, efficient, and compassionate care. • PhilHealth is being defunded while case rates for top killer diseases remain dangerously low. • Ghost hospitals and alleged corruption continue to plague our system. • The poor are left to endure misery while officials remain silent or dismissive. This is not just incompetence—it is a betrayal of public trust. We call on the President, lawmakers, and health advocates to act now: • Streamline access to essential services in OPDs nationwide. • Increase funding for PhilHealth and raise case rates for heart disease, cancer, stroke, pneumonia, and diabetes. • Remove VAT on essential medications. • Investigate and prosecute corruption in the health sector. • Restore dignity to every Filipino seeking care. Healthcare is not a privilege. It is a right. And when that right is denied, we must raise our voices—not just as doctors, but as citizens. Let this message be heard. Let this video be seen. Let this injustice be corrected.

Day 5 OPENING PRAYER FOR EVERY DAY (To be said before the Chaplet of the Precious Blood of Jesus) O God, our heavenly Father, out of love for the human family, you willed your Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, to be our Redeemer through the shedding of his blood. Blessing and thanksgiving be evermore to Jesus. Who with his blood has saved us. We give you thanks for the gift of our Lord’s blood, which he shed until the last drop for our salvation. May the blood of Jesus, shed for us, purify us and protect us from all evil. In the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, we drink the blood of the new and eternal covenant. May it give us peace and may it unite us with all the human family, especially with the poor and the marginalized. May the Precious Blood of Jesus become for us the blood of life, of unity and of peace. May this mystery of love and grace fill our hearts with the Holy Spirit. United with the Blood of Christ, may we participate with Christ in the work of redeeming our world of today. Praise to the blood of Jesus. Now and forever. Amen.

Grabe si Justice Carpio. He could have had an easy life as a retired SC justice, just lecturing or sitting on boards of the largest corporations in the Philippines, yet here he is, going to Pag-asa Island, not because he's paid to do so but because he's very much committed to this advocacy. My favorite law grandpa. 👴🏻

When 740 children were condemned to the sea and the world said no, one man said yes. The world was on fire in 1942, and 740 exhausted children were trapped on a ship in the middle of the Arabian Sea with nowhere to go. These Polish orphans had already survived the horrors of Soviet labor camps, where they watched their parents perish from hunger and disease. They had traveled through Iran to reach the coast of India, praying for safety, but every British-controlled port turned them away. One by one, the doors of the world slammed shut, leaving hundreds of hungry, terrified children drifting toward a certain death. Among them was twelve-year-old Maria. She held her six-year-old brother’s hand tightly, remembering the last promise she made to their dying mother: “Keep him safe.” But as the ship’s food ran low and the medicine disappeared, Maria looked at the horizon and saw only rejection. The British authorities, who ruled India at the time, insisted the children were not their responsibility. It seemed as though these 740 souls were invisible to a world consumed by war. However, news of the wandering ship reached the ears of Jam Sahib Digvijay Singhji, the Maharaja of Nawanagar. He ruled a small princely state in Gujarat. He wasn’t a world leader with a massive army, and he certainly wasn’t required to help. In fact, by welcoming the children, he would be directly defying the British Empire, which had already said “no.” When his advisors told him the tragic story, the Maharaja didn’t ask about the cost or the political risks. He simply asked how many children there were. When they told him “seven hundred and forty,” he made a decision that would echo through history. He declared that while the British might control the ports, they did not control his conscience. In August 1942, the ship finally docked at Nawanagar. The children who walked off that gangplank were skeletal, weak, and too traumatized to even cry. They expected to see soldiers or barbed wire. Instead, they saw a man dressed in white waiting for them on the pier. The Maharaja knelt down so he could look the smallest children in the eye. Through an interpreter, he spoke words that changed their lives forever: “Do not consider yourselves orphans. From this moment on, I am your father, and you are my children.” He didn’t just give them a place to sleep; he gave them a home. In the village of Balachadi, he built a sanctuary. He didn’t try to force Indian culture on them. Instead, he hired Polish teachers so they wouldn’t forget their language. He made sure they had Polish food and allowed them to practice their religion and sing their traditional songs. Under the hot Indian sun, these children celebrated Polish Christmas and felt the warmth of a family they thought they had lost forever. For four years, while the rest of the planet was tearing itself apart, the Maharaja funded every doctor’s visit, every meal, and every schoolbook from his own personal fortune. When the war finally ended and it was time for the “children of the Maharaja” to leave, many wept. They were leaving the only place that had treated them with dignity when the rest of the world looked away. Those survivors have become doctors, engineers, and grandparents. In Poland, there are squares and schools named after Jam Sahib Digvijay Singhji, and he is remembered as a national hero. Power is not measured by the lands you conquer, but by the lives you protect. When the world closes its heart, your greatest act of rebellion is to open yours. True immortality is found in the kindness that outlasts the king.

Did you know? The Holy Souls in Purgatory are powerful intercessors and at times, protectors against evil🇻🇦 Father Louis Manaci was a zealous missionary priest with a profound devotion to the Holy Souls in Purgatory. He prayed for them constantly, especially by offering the Rosary on their behalf, and he confidently asked for their help in return. One day, he had to travel through a vast desert known to be infested with dangerous brigands, robbers who wouldn’t hesitate to kill for money. Before setting out, Fr. Manaci entrusted himself completely to the protection of the Poor Souls. As he walked through the desert, devoutly reciting the Rosary for their relief, he suddenly looked around in amazement… and found himself surrounded by a shining bodyguard of blessed spirits, a crowd of holy souls accompanying him like a protective escort! He soon discovered the reason: he had unknowingly walked straight into an ambush. The brigands were lying in wait, ready to attack and take his life. But when they saw the large group of figures surrounding the priest, they were filled with terror and fled. The Holy Souls drove off the miscreants who sought to harm him. The blessed spirits stayed with Fr. Manaci as his faithful bodyguard until he was completely out of danger. This powerful real life story from Fr. Paul O’Sullivan’s classic book Read Me or Rue It beautifully illustrates the reciprocity in our Catholic faith: When we help the Holy Souls through our prayers, sacrifices, and Masses, they become powerful intercessors for us, sometimes in extraordinary ways. Today, let’s not forget the Poor Souls! Offer just one decade of the Rosary, the prayer “Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them,” or have a Mass said for them. Who knows? One day, they may be the ones surrounding and protecting you. Have you ever felt the powerful intercession of the Holy Souls in your life?
