APPEAL | We are continuing to appeal for information on the 20th anniversary of Anthony Cavanagh who was assaulted during a night out with friends in Liverpool city centre and later died from his injuries.
On 24 September 2005, Anthony was 21-years-old when he was assaulted during a night out with friends in Liverpool city centre while on home leave from the Royal Navy.
He suffered catastrophic head injuries caused by a single punch by an unknown attacker, as he left the Walkabout on Fleet Street by Concert Square.
Sadly Anthony, from Kirkdale, died in hospital 11 days later (5 October 2005) – a day after his 22nd birthday.
One suspect was arrested but released without charge. The investigation currently remains unsolved.
The investigation is regularly reviewed, and any new lines of enquiry are examined.
Howard Rubbery, Head of the Serious Crime Review Unit, said: "Although 20 years has passed, Anthony’s family will not be able to rest until those responsible for his death are brought before the courts.
"Anthony died in such tragic circumstances where he was enjoying a night out with friends. The unprovoked assault resulted in his death which no parent should have to go through, and we continue to appeal for people to come forward.
“Loyalties can change over time, and we believe there are people that know the person responsible for his death. If you have information that can help with the investigation, then we urge you to search your conscience and get in contact.
“If you are in a different situation and now feel able to assist, I would urge you to come forward and help us to get closure for his family.
“I know that considerable time has passed but no murder investigation is ever closed. Anyone who has information, no matter how small, can help us make significant progress in the investigation.
“We know how difficult it can be for people to speak up and pass on what they know, which is why they can contact Crimestoppers anonymously and any information will be treated with sensitivity and care.
“This information could be the key to finally solving Anthony’s murder and help bring some peace to his family.”
Anyone who can help the police with their investigation can contact 101, our social media desk @MerPolCC with reference 0509143184. Or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, or via their website here: orlo.uk/wNmgA

Blaming asylum seekers for homelessness? What about the 720,000 empty homes in England, and the 1,627,450 second homes in England alone.
Blaming asylum seekers for expensive food shops? What about the £3,100,000,000 profit Tesco made last year?
Blaming asylum seekers for expensive energy bills? What about the £438,000,000,000 made by just 20 energy companies in profit?
Blaming immigrants for not getting an NHS appointment? What about the 260,000+ migrant workers keeping the NHS going? And what about the 25% real term cut in NHS funding, think that could do it?
Blaming people on welfare for a lack of money to fund the NHS? What about the £36,000,000,000 tax gap due to avoidance and evasion by the elite?
It's time to realise it's not immigrants, asylum seekers or people on welfare causing you any harm, it's capitalism and the mega rich hoarding all the wealth.

@RyanSoccerAA Would be good business if it's around that fee I'd say
English

@Shaungizzy They paid €18M per Transfermarkt, so I'd guess slightly more than that?
English

Obviously what matters is the fee beyond just the player, but this is indeed the profile Everton should be focused on IMO. This kid has a high ceiling and my guess is the fee won't be that massive.
