It’s as though he had chosen not to switch his brain from debt mode to ‘I have more than I need’ mode. We are no longer in debt to God. Every wrong we have ever done is forgiven in Jesus. Yet we so often live as though we haven’t done enough – as though we still need to earn his approval. One of the consequences of this debt mentality is that we find it harder to be gracious towards others who get things wrong. When we live out of abundance – knowing that we are deeply loved and richly provided for – then it becomes much easier to extend grace towards others.
