My take on the current discourse about the Christian man with the formerly “promiscuous” wife is that many of the comments towards the man and his wife have been uncharitable, cruel, and certainly un-Christian, but also that Christians these days often tend to be far too eager to tell the entire world about their past sins, which in most cases shows a lack of discretion and a certain lack of the sort of shame one should feel even for repented sins. Also, as a parent, I strongly believe that you generally should avoid telling your kids about your own wayward youth, because the kids will take such stories as an indication that they too can go off and have fun sinning and things will turn out okay, just as they did for you. Also you undermine your own moral authority when you instruct your children not to do the very things you have admitted to having done yourself. Finally, the man’s line about how his wife “is more pure than most virgins” is prideful and shows a kind of competitiveness and vanity that should simply not ever appear in any Prodigal Son style testimony. Imagine if the Prodigal Son had returned and announced himself not only repentant but “more pure” than the brother who stayed? It would kind of destroy the point of the story. So in summary I basically disagree with everyone on this.

Women’s History Month Meet Lieutenant Colonel Shawna Rochelle Kimbrell—a true trailblazer who made history as the first Black female fighter pilot in the United States Air Force. She earned her commission in 1998 after graduating with a degree in General Engineering, then went on to Undergraduate Pilot Training at Laughlin AFB, earning her wings in 1999. Not long after, she completed F-16 training at Luke AFB—breaking barriers and rewriting what was possible. But she didn’t just make history—she lived it. In 2001, she was assigned to the 13th Fighter Squadron in Misawa, Japan, where she flew combat missions in support of Operations Northern and Southern Watch. During her service, she became the first Black female pilot to employ weapons in combat and the first female pilot in Misawa’s 35th Fighter Wing to fly combat missions. And stories like hers matter. Saturday night was my friend Wendy’s 40th 90s themed birthday party. She’s the one sitting next to me. Along side her are her sisters, Shay and Shemika. I tweeted about their mother a couple of years ago. Stephanie’s unique parenting style helped me get my daughter out of the gender cult. My baby sister and the sister in the middle, Shay, were best friends since elementary school. Our mothers became very close friends as a result. Our family’s have been friends for over 30yrs. When my sister died at 21, Shay lost her best friend. They did everything together. Mostly getting into trouble. She and I became close after we lost Geminii. I think it was comforting to her that my baby sister and I look so much alike. It is still comforting to me be with the people that Geminii would be with if she were still alive. As I sat in the VIP with everyone, I imagined my baby sister dancing along with them. It felt good to be out with them again. It’s been a long time since we were all together. It’s certainly not the same without my sister or my mother. Stephanie and her daughter are all nurses. Wendy and her husband are Navy veterans. I’m the godmother to Shay’s oldest daughter who is now in her 20s. All 3 of Shay’s children were at the party as well. She’s a grandmother too. Stephanie is a great grandmother in her 60s. God willing she’ll be a great great grandmother while she’s still alive. It’s wild to me to think that 4 generations of this family are walking around. They’re so incredibly close too. They’re all in each other’s business so it’s gotten messy over the years. But at the end of the day, they’re all still together. It’s nothing like my family. We’re all scattered and estranged. No real reason in particular. Just personality differences. It’s a bit sad really. Stephanie was able to keep her entire family together through some of the craziest shit. Shit that our family never faced. No matter how insane things were, she managed to teach her daughters values that made them all successful, happy and productive. The best lesson she taught them is that there’s nothing more important than family. I’m envious and in awe of this gift. I suppose that’s why I like being around them. I know everything I’ve learned from them has help others. Through the ups, downs, laughter, tears, marriages, divorces, gains, losses, births, and deaths they fight for each other. We should all strive for such strength.

I am aware of reports that this precious 5-year old, Liam Ramos, who was kidnapped by ICE as he returned home from preschool in Minneapolis may be in San Antonio, Texas. I will be visiting the Dilley Detention Center in San Antonio next week to conduct oversight and will demand answers on the whereabouts and wellbeing of Liam. If it were up to me, we’d be at the Dilley Detention Center RIGHT NOW getting answers. But let’s be clear about what’s really happening here: the Trump Administration is illegally blocking Members of Congress from conducting lawful oversight. We have an absolute right—under federal law and the Constitution—to enter detention facilities, unannounced, to ensure the safety and wellbeing of people in government custody. I am outraged. My heart aches for Liam’s family. We will get answers.
