@tobicoul @DarrenWRash1 @amapel You guys, well most of you, have stopped using that racist excuse when you can’t win an argument. But you do you. Whatever works.

This affects millions of people. This country gave me a chance with an O1 and EB1-A. It makes me feel angry, guilty and frankly confused! How does this benefit the USA? My heart breaks for so many... including loved ones.
Homeland Security@DHSgov

An alien who is in the U.S. temporarily and wants a Green Card must return to their home country to apply. This policy allows our immigration system to function as the law intended instead of incentivizing loopholes. The era of abusing our nation’s immigration system is over.

@ASayehh They sure do. If you were an AMERICAN you would know that. What the fuck is “FARSI”. See, there you go again.

@ShellieDomalski Did I reply to you in Farsi? No, I replied in English. Being bilingual is normal, not a threat. Also, the U.S. does not even have an official national language, so maybe calm down with the caps lock patriotism.

@ASayehh You don’t have to erase your language. Just when you are in AMERICA talking to AMERICANS, speak the language of AMERICA, which is ENGLISH. Why is this so hard for you people to grasp? THIS IS NOT ROCKET SCIENCE. I’m not going to even discuss your “culture”.

@ShellieDomalski Assimilation does not mean erasing your language, culture, or background to make strangers comfortable. I work, pay taxes, follow the law, contribute to society, and became a citizen legally that is assimilation into civic life, whether you approve of my accent or not.

What I have yet to see, is a visa holding immigrant thanking the United States for allowing them to live and prosper in the greatest country in the world, the United States of America. Especially since they know their country would never allow Americans the same courtesy.

@nutanc Citizens settle here. Not temporary visa holders who send all their money back to their OWN country. You are temporary. You knew that.

This is a body blow for people planning to settle in the US. Have been telling this for a long time, the US has decided it's not going to be the home for the best and the brightest. It's their country. That's their call. No point in pushing them. Only option is for us to make India the best and the brightest. Remove the US from your thoughts and start planning for India. This is the way.

It was’t really about “illegal” immigration. Trump is forcing people already here legally — spouses of US citizens, startup founders — to abandon their families & companies, leave the US, and wait for his approval to come back. His disdain for immigrants knows no bounds.

@ASayehh I have no problem with immigrants who ASSIMILATE. Key word here is assimilate. If you do not, you are being very disrespectful to your hosts, the United States of America.

@ShellieDomalski The irony of calling legal immigrants “disrespectful” while talking about “rounding people up and shipping them home” like human beings are cattle. People who followed legal immigration pathways&became citizens are as American as you are, no matter how much that seems to bother u

@AndrewLolk Thinking it would have been a great way to speed up CITIZENSHIP in the U.S. should have been the goal.

I got my green card while in the country. I thought it was a great way to speed up the integration into the US. It also made it much easier to visit immigration offices in person. It would be a shame to lose that IMO. PS. I got here due to my wife being a citizen.
Andrew Ng@AndrewYNg

The new White House policy requiring green card applicants to apply from outside the US is a capricious attack on legal immigration. It will hurt families, leave us with fewer doctors, teachers and scientists, and hurt American competitiveness in AI.

@ShellieDomalski @amapel International students, people on CPT and OPT, H1-B visa holders pay taxes. I paid close to $2000-3000 in taxes working as a teaching assistant on campus. This year alone I have already paid $1000.

@TSMERDIST America is done competing against low paid, low skilled leeches who invade our country. Newsflash, AMERICANS HAVE THE BRIGHTEST MINDS. Go make your own country competitive. They were never ever told they could stay here indefinitely and send all their money home.

America used to compete to attract the brightest minds in the world. Now legal immigrants who already built lives here, scientists, engineers, physicians, researchers, and students, are being pushed into uncertainty, frozen by the #USCISpause, and in some cases pressured to leave the country entirely during green card processing. Many cannot safely or realistically return for months or years. Families, careers, research projects, and futures are all being placed at risk despite years of following every legal rule. This is not how a nation leads in science, innovation, medicine, or global competitiveness. @RpsAgainstTrump @SecMullinDHS @marcorubio @USCISJoe @SenGaryPeters @RandPaul #LiftTheHold
Republicans against Trump@RpsAgainstTrump

What an unbelievably cruel and destructive policy. The U.S. used to compete for the best talent in the world. Now it’s pushing people away and forcing scientists and other talented people who are already in the U.S. LEGALLY to risk going back to countries like Russia, China, and Iran. It was NEVER about illegal immigration.

@SeeFisch 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. We won’t have “millions” of benefit receiving deadbeats (what you all patients) clogging our medical system. Don’t you worry, America has more than enough qualified doctors ready to serve AMERICANS. Go play doctor in your own country.

Had to delete a prior post about this green card change because I got some violent threats in reply and I tweet under my real name. But the reason my post was so triggering was because it was accurate. This change is highly unpopular and will carry a steep price. Many US doctors are visa holders. We rely on them for surgery, primary care, etc. Now they will have to leave the US to apply for a green card. This will disrupt their families, a consequence that will appear cruel. And it will disrupt access to care for everyone. These are super unpopular things to do. Much smarter move would have been to simply go after obviously fraudulent cases rather than penalizing all applying for a green card.
The Wall Street Journal@WSJ

Most green-card applicants will need to go abroad to apply for permanent residency at an American consulate, rather than filing from within the U.S. as they do now, the Trump administration announced Friday. on.wsj.com/4v2Fqkr
