.@GovofCO Brandin Kreuzer SHOT A COP and nearly killed him. How dare you minimize his heinous crimes. I have spoken with both officers involved, and they are absolutely furious, as am I. The audacity of @GovofCO to grant clemency to a would-be cop killer on National Peace Officers Memorial Day shows a complete lack of respect for the brave men and women who wear the badge and put their lives on the line every day. I personally worked on this case and remember what it took to track these two suspects down. I will have more to say in the coming days.

Onward and upward. Today’s promotional ceremony highlighted the hard but rewarding work of numerous sworn and professional staff members here at APD. These are memorable moments not just for our team and their families. These promotions also represent how dedication, commitment and a belief in something better makes our community better now and in the future. Congratulations, one and all 🎉. Remembering Sergeant Timothy Mossbrucker Thirty-one years ago today, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office lost Sergeant Timothy Mossbrucker, a brother, a friend, a dedicated sergeant, and a public servant whose smile, courage, and commitment left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. Sgt. Mossbrucker served this community with honor for 17 years. On this day in 1995, he was shot and killed while responding to a shooting scene at a supermarket in South Jeffco. He was shot as he arrived, before he was able to exit his patrol car. The suspect was apprehended and later died by suicide while in jail. At 8:00 a.m. this morning, Sheriff Reggie Marinelli took a special moment to remember Sgt. Mossbrucker over the radio, honoring his service, his sacrifice, and the legacy he left behind. Every deputy understands the challenges and risks that come with this profession. Today, we pause with gratitude and pride to honor Sgt. Mossbrucker and all those who have given their lives in service to others. Though he may be gone, Sergeant Timothy Mossbrucker will never be forgotten.

⚠️Scam Alert: Fake Detentions Payment Calls Increasing The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is seeing an increase in scam calls reported through our Detentions Lobby. Callers are posing as members of our office and demanding payment for things like a pre-trial ankle monitor or a booking/bond fee. In many cases, victims are told to send money immediately using apps such as CashApp, Apple Pay, or Venmo. Unfortunately, some individuals have already made payments before contacting us to verify the call. We want to be very clear: The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office will never call you to demand payment over the phone. We will not ask for money through gift cards, prepaid debit cards, wire transfers, cryptocurrency, or payment apps. Scammers rely on fear and urgency to pressure people into acting quickly. These calls may even appear legitimate, as caller ID information can be spoofed to display our name or phone number. If you receive one of these calls: Hang up immediately. Do not provide any personal or financial information. Do not send money.

Here’s your Douglas County Sheriff’s Office crew when they were little, back when the biggest decisions were what game to play and what snack to eat. Fast forward and those same kids grew up to answer calls, solve cases, support the community, and keep everything running behind the scenes. Different roles, one purpose—serving something bigger than themselves 💙

CHILD SEX OFFENDER CAPTURED AFTER MULTI-STATE MANHUNT A convicted child sex offender is back behind bars after a desperate attempt to flee the country. A Douglas County Detective and the U.S. Marshals Colorado Violent Offender Task Force tracked down Jorge Campos-Gonzalez just miles from the U.S.-Mexico border. He had cut off his ankle monitor, failed to show up to his court hearing last Friday, and fled. Statement from @SheriffWeekly: "We are very fortunate that nobody was hurt as he was attempting to flee the country, and we’re grateful to have him back in custody. From my perspective, he should never have been out of custody. It’s almost unconscionable that somebody could commit crimes like this and be put on an ankle monitor that can be cut off and flee. My understanding is he still had his passport with him. The system in Colorado is broken and while the legislature is down arguing about bills to further protect people that shouldn’t be protected. They need to rethink their priorities instead of thinking about the suspects. Start thinking about victims of crimes and do better. Colorado can do better…starting with this session. There’s still time." Statement from District Attorney @GeorgeBrauchler: "Every aspect of the system came together to try to get justice. If it wasn’t for Castle Rock and the fantastic case they put together, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and their efforts, especially putting someone in with the US Marshals Office who worked throughout the night to track this guy down, to generate warrants, to do all the special magical things they do at the US Marshal’s Office to try to find people, I don’t think we’re in a position to get him when we get that great tip. This arrest highlights the power of teamwork, dedication, and community partnership in keeping our communities safe." Special thanks to the @USMSDenver, @23rdDA, @CRPoliceCO, Otero County Sheriff’s Office, the New Mexico State Police, and the courageous citizen who called in a tip about his location after seeing his picture on the news. Great teamwork to ensure this individual is no longer a risk to the public.

The Douglas County Sheriff's office was proud to host the Basic National Association of School Resource Officers class at our substation! We had 50 attendees participate in this important training, including 5 of our own Douglas County School Resource Officers, all focused on strengthening school safety, building positive relationships, and supporting students every day. Opportunities like this help ensure SROs are equipped with the tools and knowledge to make a meaningful impact in our schools and community. Thank you to everyone who took part in this week’s training!
