I am happy to share this preprint from my postdoc! By constructing ‘synthetic mitochondria’ in cells, we looked at how real mitochondria decide between going forwards and backwards on microtubules. ⬅️🔋➡️?

Stefan Niekamp in our lab carried out this awesome study of dynein domain movements using 3 color single molecule imaging (doi.org/10.1101/2020.1…) by first learning to accurately measure nm distances, then developing a new class of super stable fluorophores called FluoroCubes .
