Any API call to Chainalysis feeds them data they wouldn't have otherwise. Associating the destination address with my IP is doxxing. This is the last "feature" that ought to have been enabled by default. This was non-consensual and a violation of trust.

hey there, yes, all premium features enabled by default for fdroid users because there is no way for us to charge them (for the time being). re: was it ever discussed whether this should be opt-in or opt-out? No, it wasn't discussed. Do you feel it should be disabled by default? re: IP exposure Yes, the IP is exposed, unless you use TOR or VPN. The app makes HTTP request over their public API. It sends the address (the users wants to send to) and asks the destination API if it's blacklisted. We felt there is minimal privacy risk here as the user's own wallet address isn't exposed.

Hey @unstoppablebyhs, could you tell me more about my counterparty's addresses being automatically submitted to Chainalysis for sanctions checks? I certainly didn't opt into this and I see no way to disable it. Are you proxying the request, or is this a local API call to Chainalysis from my IP? Why is this even the default?

Zcash's superpower is the culture of Zcashers; all the tech wizardry, organization, and capital allocation is a side-effect of this. I've decide to begin sharing and advocating for important aspects I value in this culture. This culture is hardy and Lindy. It's been through a lot and come out stronger each time. I'm a pragmatic optimist: our culture _can_ overcome anything, but it's not inevitable or guaranteed. It requires vigilance and care. I've been grappling with how to put words to some concerns I have around Zcash's cultural growth. I realized it's too big, with too many threads, and ever-evolving to fit into a post, so instead I will begin sharing bite-size chunks as they become clear to me.
