We *did* land on the Moon. Six times in fact! (Apollo 11–17). Apollo was a one-time political sprint to beat the Soviets in the Space Race.
Once the prestige victory was won, Congress slashed NASA’s budget from >4% of the federal budget to ~0.5% to pay for the Vietnam War and shifting priorities. The program was never meant to be permanent “flags and footprints” tourism so keeping it alive would’ve required sustained massive funding that simply vanished.
We’re returning now with Artemis for sustainable bases, not photo-ops. It’s just a shame it’s taken this long and for @elonmusk and @rookisaacman/@NASAAdmin light a fire under everyone’s butts.
The “staging movie” claim is a debunked conspiracy trope (often twisting the fictional Capricorn One). Real evidence includes 382 kg of verified lunar rocks studied by scientists worldwide, laser retroreflectors still used today, Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter photos of the exact landing sites/footprints/equipment, and live Soviet tracking (they never disputed it).
