This is interesting. The Sri Lanka Civil War is not officially considered a genocide and the intent of the war is heavily disputed. There were atrocities committed by both sides. I guess we are just using the word genocide liberally these days.

17 years ago, Sri Lanka carried out a genocidal campaign against the Tamil people. Tens of thousands killed. Hospitals destroyed. Families starved. I will continue to stand with the Tamil community in the fight for justice. We need genocide recognition, universal jurisdiction, & international accountability.
