@JustinMacmahan @ScoringChanges Guy leads off with a walk… then next guy works a 10 pitch AB and flies out. Now the pitcher is on the ropes 18 pitches into the inning. Meanwhile the rest of the team is watching these pitches gaining an advantage. All of this could lead to a big inning, multiple hits.

I’m not sure what the controversy is here with a left fielder sliding to attempt to make a catch. This is an obvious hit and it would have been a difficult catch for the shortstop as well.

@ScoringChanges 4. The approaches I watch are putrid. Just free swinging at garbage pitches. Or grounding into DPs on the first pitch after the previous batter just walked. Not being able to drive a runner in from third with no outs.

@Softykjr That is just one reason. Miller is a talented young pitcher with upside, Castillo is a fading veteran. If you were Miller would you sign an extension to be relegated to mop up duty?

The reason why this piggyback thing stinks is because you are obligating yourself to use one arm over everyone else out of the bullpen no matter what the starting pitcher does. Castillo was rolling. Up 7-0. Could have saved Miller for tomorrow for example. And if he's in the pen full time, possibly twice before Castillos next start. Instead, you've probably burned him for the next 5 days

@Softykjr They don’t need to save SP to work in the bullpen. This is about preserving leverage arms.
