This is exactly why we pushed for stipend reform.
Three-quarters of Massachusetts lawmakers receive leadership stipends, some as high as 200% over their base pay , and leadership controls the assignments. Some stipend-paid committees don’t even hold hearings or consider bills.
When pay, power, and loyalty are tied together, taxpayers lose.
I told WCVB government is supposed to work for the little person. That is still the point, and we are not done fighting. wcvb.com/article/massac…

@MikeMinogueABMD At this point, you might save yourself if you rip into the state police. That’s about the only thing left you could try to earn some votes with.
English

@MikeMinogueABMD Whoever is advising you in MA should be fired. But it’s probably too late. This image collage is your Willie Horton tank ride. You won’t recover from it: cowboy hat, bible and bible quote. Independents and moderates in a highly educated state(ps the ones that vote) just left.

@TedDanielnews @massauditor and @MassOIG need to open special audits and investigations immediately. It’s not ok for DOT to self review this BS. We want names and terminations of all involved now.
English

I appreciate the tremendous amount of feedback we’ve received on our ‘Clocking Out and Cashing In’ investigative report.
I’m not done. Here’s our first follow up report.
MassDOT admits to ‘outrageous’ breakdown following 25 Investigates report boston25news.com/news/local/mas…
English

@ShortsleeveMA @boston25 @TedDanielnews so lame this account didn’t tag Ted. He gets most credit, not boston 25. Enough credit to at least get tagged. 🤷♂️
English

.@boston25 just proved something I’ve been saying for YEARS: if you don’t look for fraud in state government, you won’t find it. If you do look, you will.
A 231-day news investigation by Boston 25 found questionable overtime, and from the sound of it no one every actually checked these employees overtime slips!
When I’m governor, we’re auditing every single state agency. We’re going to find stories like this everywhere, and we’re going to cut the waste, stop the abuse, and redirect that money to priorities that actually matter. Read more here: zurl.co/BrJmI #mapoli #magov

English

@ShortsleeveMA @boston25 Is @massauditor or @MassOIG not focusing on these kind of “things”? Have to look WAY back to find them calling out a state employee fraud or scam like this one. They do great w non state employees and benefit fraud…But state EEs…crickets #chirp #hireted #mapoli #magov

English

@ShortsleeveMA @boston25 Can you remind us again about all the fraud you found when you worked for Baker? Like a rough idea, per year, to start would be helpful.
English

@ShortsleeveMA @boston25 You could get started on it now. That would impress people and help get votes off @MassGovernor. And thats betrer than a promise. Your team can jump on the purchasing website and the financial disclosure sites
Right now! Promises take too long.

@JenniferNassour Good point here. 100% agree. But Mikes campaign cherry picks everything too. Like ignoring debates. That’s what all politicians do. Whether self Funded or not, they cherry pick as a way to try to get elected. But you already knew that….
English

Funny how campaign finance reform suddenly becomes urgent the second a political outsider starts competing with the machine.
Unions, PACs, and political insiders spend big money in Massachusetts races all the time. But when a candidate uses his own money instead of owing favors to the usual crowd, now it’s a “democracy” crisis?
If Beacon Hill wants a real conversation about money in politics, great. Let’s have it. But cherry-picking the issue only when it’s politically convenient is exactly why people don’t trust the system.

@TedDanielnews lol. “If anyone is found to…” like seriously?? Ted already found it all for you, DOT spox(who should also get fired for this stupid holding statement.)
Heads need to roll. No mercy Ted. This is the time to blow this up. Get Eng and Gov in the glare on this. Dog meet bone!!

These are the questions I sent MassDOT one week ago. I requested an interview with the Secretary of Transportation in hopes of asking these in person but the request was denied.
1. What "checks and balances" exist to ensure that timecards, signed under the penalty of perjury, match the physical presence of employees at their job sites?
2. Why did it require external surveillance by a news organization to identify consistent 3-to-5-hour gaps between payroll filings and actual staff departures?
3. Has anyone at MassDOT ever questioned the physical well-being and/or safety of employees who operate heavy equipment “working” a full overnight shift, a full overtime day shift, and 2 more additional OT hours before their next full overnight shift begins? That would be 18 hours of work in a 24-hour period.
4.What is the protocol for supervisors who certify these timecards?
5. How will MassDOT address this issue?
MassDOT’s response:
“MassDOT takes any allegation of improperly reporting time worked extremely seriously. Not only do we expect all employees to accurately report time worked and supervisors to properly review and certify time records — it’s the law. We have launched an investigation into this matter and placed these employees on administrative leave. If anyone is found to have been intentionally misreporting their time or misusing taxpayer dollars, they will be held accountable.”

@TheCarolErskine I did read it. A few times. Today and when it first came out- you know that already. And you are way closer to the law here than 99.99% for sure. But you believe or even “know” the DA ignored and had blinders and didn’t do it the right way. The DA doesn’t agree with that. 🤷♂️
English

@ShirleyMusbee Best to read my op-ed of you get the chance.
English

The old joke “Any prosecutor can get a grand jury to indict a ham sandwich" is meant to remind us that jurors only hear one side of the story presented and will rubber-stamp nearly any charge a prosecutor brings. With that, I repost my recent op-ed after Officer O’Malley’s indictment to let the public know there is another side to this story that the DA of Suffolk County does not want you to know. It about that pesky little thing called the “Constitution.” You know....the one that protects us all. @BostonDefender
commonwealthbeacon.org/opinion/in-cha…. .
English

Interesting that the ADA said that after only AFTER my op- ed was published and where I had to point it out, schooling them on the law. He's quoting the language cited by SCOTUS in my op-ed. It's not however "common sense" that is the standard...it's the 4th amendment objectively reasonable standard- That's what they are hiding along with the factors set out by the Supreme Court. They didn't seem to know any of this during the pre-indicment press conference. commonwealthbeacon.org/opinion/in-cha…
English

@TheCarolErskine Officer gets all rights he is entitled to and DA gets to try to do their job fairly in a challenging situation. That’s our system. Judges like
You have to mold it in trial. We got here because of a bad person . I hope the officer gets to go back to doing his job protecting us🤞
English

@TheCarolErskine They are not hiding it when they continued to proceed after you schooled them publicly. Objectively reasonable standard wont outweigh facts when this is evidence they had to weigh: “However, investigating officers concluded that O’Malley’s statement “was not factually true.”
English

@TheCarolErskine I do get your zeal for the officers protection within his job and the law. They made it clear they did not ignore the prior law in still going down this path. Again, I prefer officer did what he did knowing all the facts presented of the crime.
English

@TheCarolErskine Why do you state that the Suffolk DA does not “want you to know about” the reasonableness consideration? The DA can follow the law, be fair, etc while weighing it ALL to continue down the prosecution path. They clearly stated why they charged/sought indictment of officer….
English

@TheCarolErskine Still sucks the poor officer had to decide to fire in the moment trying to save lives. But you have now taken your opinion further than an opinion page and laid out that the reasonableness standard was ignored when DA team explicitly says it was not, therefore prosecute per law
English

@MikeLaCava_ @Michael27596552 @TedDanielnews And even if they punched out truthfully every day of the 231 days, there’s no need for somebody to have that much overtime on the state dime in these job functions. Never.
English

@MikeLaCava_ @Michael27596552 @TedDanielnews This👆. Ted didn’t say he observed every hour every day over the 200 days. Full stop on somehow making it seem like Ted oversold it. Ted should have gone to press after just 1 day of it. These fraudsters all gonna claim hurt on the job now that they are exposed. Scum
