Sam Neill was so great in so many things. In The Mouth of Madness. Jurassic Park. Red October. But for me he’ll always be Damien Thorn in the flawed but ambitious The Final Conflict, a film he dominates every frame of. RIP Sir

Throw on those oversized flannel shirts, crack open a cold New Coke, dim the lights, and crank that possessed VCR because we’re rewinding straight back to July 11, 1987 — the night Fox unleashed the howling two-hour premiere of WEREWOLF and changed Saturday nights forever for every latchkey horror kid glued to the tube! Picture this: You’re a wide-eyed 80s kid (or young teenager like I was) in your dimly lit bedroom, the glow of the CRT flickering across your posters of The Monster Squad, Fright Night, and that killer stack of Fangoria and Gorezones. The whole family’s downstairs, but you’ve got the volume low so Mom doesn’t bust you for staying up past bedtime. The opening credits hit with that pulsing synth score, the full moon rises, and suddenly Eric Cord (John J. York) — your average college grad student with a sweet girlfriend and a best friend named Ted — gets dragged into a nightmare bloodline when Ted confesses he’s a werewolf, attacks him, and passes on the curse. One silver bullet later, Ted’s gone, but Eric’s palm starts burning with that cursed pentagram… and the hunt is on! Eric’s gotta track down the big bad originator, Janos Skorzeny (a grizzled Chuck Connors in one of his final roles), the drifter who started it all, while dodging the relentless bounty hunter “Alamo Joe” Rogan (Lance LeGault) who’s packing silver bullets and zero chill. Fangs sprout, hair explodes, clothes rip, and every full moon brings raw, practical-effects transformation glory — no CGI, just pure late-80s makeup magic that made your heart pound and your palms sweat right along with Eric. The show delivered weekly doses of road-trip lycanthrope action, monster-of-the-week chills, and that perfect mix of horror, pursuit thriller, and “what would YOU do if you turned hairy under the moonlight?” vibes. And here’s the real latchkey magic, Crypt Squad: back then we didn’t have streaming or DVRs. You had to record those episodes off the TV onto your blank VHS tapes! I’d slap in a fresh Maxell or TDK, hit RECORD right as the Fox logo faded in, and pray the tracking didn’t go wonky or Dad didn’t walk in and change the channel. Then, for the next six days, I’d rewind and rewatch that tape until the plastic groaned — pausing on the best transformation scenes, memorizing every growl, every silver-bullet standoff, every desperate escape — until the brand new episode dropped the following Saturday night like a full-moon gift from the horror gods. Those fuzzy, time-coded copies became sacred relics, stacked next to my Friday the 13th and Tales from the Darkside tapes, ready for rainy-day marathons or sleepover fright fests with the neighborhood crew. Pure late-80s Fox Network magic that still hits harder than cold pizza at 2 a.m. after a horror binge. Who else was right there on July 11, 1987, heart racing as Eric’s first change hit the screen? Drop your wildest Werewolf memories, your favorite VHS recording disaster (static lines? Mom yelling to turn it down?), or scream “PENTAGRAM!” or “ALAMO JOE!” if you’re firing up the pilot on Tubi (or digging out your old taped copies) with the Crypt Squad tonight! A new British horror film from 'ShogunFilms. I hope this is the first of many. I love a frightening movie, it's a great form of escapist fantasy and full blooded (Kensington Gore?) escapism is what we need. This looks edge of the seat stuff. Toll the doom bells!

@ShogunFilms No problem. Packaging is better than Amazon too. Mine came in a box packed with paper. Amazon US use paper envelopes 🤦🏻‍♂️. It’s MOD but there are menus and no loss of quality with picture and sound. I’m pleased to own it 👍🏻
