Super Castlevania IV is such an awesome game. The detail in the art is incredibly impressive for an early SNES title. The atmospheric music is perfect to set the mood. It's somewhat easier than the first three, mainly because Simon controls so well. He still jumps 10 feet back when anything brushes up against him though. The most fascinating part for me is the name. "Super Castlevania" makes an incredible amount of sense. It's the first game, remade on the Super hardware. The developers agreed, as in Japan it's simply called Akumajo Dracula, or Demon Castle Dracula. This is the same title as the original on the Famicom, making the reimagining clear. The addition of the IV to the title was a Konami of America decision. Americans do love our sequels after all. I completely understand the thinking. The idea of selling a remake of an old game for full price made them want to help it along. #RetroGaming

"The Return of Swamp Thing" was released on this day in 1989. Enormously entertaining superhero sequel from director Jim Wynorski and screenwriters Neil Cuthbert and Grant Morris. Highlights: Fun cast (Dick Durock, Louis Jourdan, Heather Locklear, and Sarah Douglas); terrific Chuck Cirino score. While "The Return of Swamp Thing" recouped its production budget at the box office, it wasn't as successful as the original film. With its focus on humor, special effects and comic book action, I thought this sequel was much better than the original movie. Incredibly underrated.

BTS: HARBINGER We had the concept of the haunted fortune telling machine but no way into the story. That came from writer Harry Boxley (Cinderella’s Curse, Popeye’s Revenge) who suggested a ‘Most Haunted’ style TV crew uncovering it in a dead serial killer’s abandoned home
