An Iranian diplomat said Tehran’s leaders want to reach a comprehensive peace deal with Trump some time before the November midterm elections, the Journal reports. I think this is the correct strategy. Iran can coerce him into capitulation on the all-important Hormuz Question if it can pose a credible threat to wreck the GOP in the midterms. After the midterms, or once he writes them off, Iranian leverage may erode. So there is a definite window. That is why they must now force it up to $150. ALERT: Prolific DUI driver decapitates a woman when he was allegedly drunk driving a pontoon boat 80 MPH in a no-wake zone. Richard Stevenson, 45, was seen flying across the Fox River in Illinois in his 30-foot pontoon boat, expected to be traveling 80 MPH. Stevenson was seen by a security camera zooming down the river and, about an hour and a half later, seen flying by again in the other direction. Shortly after, the family that recorded his boat heard a massive crash. Stevenson entered a no-wake zone and flew into the back of a boat, causing his boat to jump on top of it, decapitating a woman and injuring her husband. 2 passengers on Stevenson's boat fled the scene but were later interviewed by police and said Stevenson, who blew a .20 BAC, had taken several Fireball shots that day. Stevenson, who has 3 prior DUI’s, faces three felony charges, including reckless homicide and aggravated driving under the influence.

Good work, but ocean lifeguards do this all the time. It wasn't even particularly hard, it was in standing depth for the guard. Yes, great work, but only notable because it was captured on video and shared. But in reality, it was just another day at the beach for a thousand ocean lifeguards, and I salute them all. In no way do I mean to belittle this heroic lifeguard's efforts in heavy surf, I only mean to give credit to all the unknown ocean lifeguards who have done rescues like this, and tougher, but it was never captured on video. They just go home with a memory that will carry them for a lifetime. "Yes, I really did that." Life-on-the-line heroisim known only to a few tourists and strangers and to God. "You have to go out, you don't have to come back."

@HimarsoClock @NZ_Trav The problem with that line of thought is that it assumes that a conflict in the South Pacific would be high intensity, short duration or low intensity, long duration. That's not realistic. Now you have the potential for a 3 front conflict. The Navy doesn't have hulls to for that.

It was not realistically possible (or practical) to return the ship to fighting condition. The Tarawa class had already been fully replaced by the more modern America-class amphibious assault ships. After more than a decade mothballed, the vessel’s steam-turbine propulsion, combat systems, sensors, and overall design were obsolete relative to current fleet standards. Reactivation would have required extensive (and extremely costly) dry-docking, systems overhauls, crew training, and upgrades with no strategic justification, given the availability of newer ships. No official plans or serious proposals for military reactivation existed; the ship was maintained only long enough for eventual disposal via SINKEX, consistent with how other Tarawa-class ships (such as USS Tarawa) were handled

tomahawks only come from three places: surface ships, subs, and airframes launched at standoff distance. ship and sub VLS cells can not be loaded underway once depleted
