On the Speaker’s call against fake news We support the call of Speaker Faustino Dy III in his commitment to fight fake news in the country today. The first order of business should be to look into disinformation operations undertaken by Peanut Gallery Media Network, particularly relating to fake content on rising electricity costs. Rising electricity costs is a real concern that should be addressed immediately by government, particularly through measures relating to the removal of VAT and other taxes from electric bills. However, it is a different matter when disinformation content is created and spread to exploit the frustration of ordinary Filipino households. A closer look at one of @PGMNOfficial’s viral content would show that the person in the video is actually presenting electric bills with different Customer Account Numbers: a. CAN: 2209188031, October 6, 2025 bill showing a total amount of P724.47 b. CAN: 0494824258, May 7, 2026 bill showing a total amount of P7,009.64 PGMN and the person in the video should clarify why different Meralco account numbers were featured, and whether these CANs refer to the same household over the last several months. Without such clarification, this appears to be fake news and, worse, public disinformation. Further, as PGMN appears to engage in these types of disinformation operations, we urge law enforcement agencies such as the NBI to undertake closer scrutiny of their activities, and for the Bureau of Internal Revenue to look closely into their compliance with tax laws and regulations. A House Resolution for this purpose will be filed within the week.
