Yesterday, on Kyiv’s Maidan Nezalezhnosti, neo-Nazis and far-right groups staged a rally targeting migrant workers from Asia and Africa.
The event featured Nazi salutes, openly racist slogans, and the display of hate symbols such as the Black Sun and Celtic Cross.
Ukraine’s mainstream media are silent about it.
Why? Because these were not a handful of "marginals" or a "few angry teenagers".
Among the participants were members of youth organizations tied to elite units of the Ukrainian military:
— Bratstvo (linked to the HUR Battalion Bratstvo)
— Harnizon and UNSO (linked to the HUR Revansh)
— Avanhard (connected to the Azov-linked Third Assault Brigade)
— Prava Molod' (connected to the 67th Brigade, Karpatska Sich, and the 5th Kyiv Brigade)
Among the speakers were active servicemen with openly far-right views and ties to neo-Nazi organizations.
To write honestly about this would mean admitting an uncomfortable truth: that the far right in Ukraine enjoys state protection and openly pushes its racist and violent agenda in the streets — despite the fact that the Nazi salute is criminalized under Ukrainian law and punishable by up to five years in prison.
I am exhausted by the lazy talking points about the “Jewish president” and the mythical “2%” the far right supposedly won in parliamentary elections.
Wake up.
In Ukraine, the ultra-right do not rule through a decorative parliament where votes are bought and sold.
They wield influence through the security and military apparatus — sectors increasingly shaped by their networks and generously funded, armed, and legitimized by the West.
