Imagine thinking that slavery and rich white men wanting to make sure they could maintain power wasn’t “the system” but rather just implementation details. And that’s not why we have the electoral college in the first place
Political Factoid@Factoiddd

@ShoshEAK What you are describing isn’t “the system”. They were partial implementation details that were corrected later. The overall structure (“the system”) that the founding fathers put in place is still essentially unchanged. Because it was genius, effective, and fair.

@Bradybits And nobody is advocating going back and changing election results. But the tweet was in response to one specifically referencing a past electoral vote saying Trump would’ve still won in ‘24 (which is true). And is also the reason republicans won’t support a change

@ShoshEAK Yes. Exactly. But you can’t look backwards and say, “In the 79 world series the O’s had more hits than the Pirates”. The GOP candidates were competing for electoral votes, not popular votes. The strategy is COMPLETELY different.

@Bradybits Well I’m not sure that I’d equate elect the most powerful person in the world to a game, but in both baseball and our political system, the rules of the game have changed over time.

@ShoshEAK Because you play the game based on the rules. That’s like saying the losers of the baseball game got more hits. And the winners are just trying to keep the other team down by playing based on the rules.

@Factoiddd The system the FF put in place didn’t allow direct election of senators, often only let men w/property vote, only let men vote AND not only didn’t allow Black people to vote, it explicitly didn’t count them as whole people! Personally, I’m glad we’ve changed the system over time

@ShoshEAK So the system that the founding fathers put into place worked. Thanks for that!

.@FedEx is absolute trash. Don’t follow delivery instructions, package gets stolen, and then lets the manufacturer and consumer eat the cost of their mistake. Wish there was a way to choose the shipper (as a consumer)

Curious, how much money is too much to pay for parking at an event? At one point would it deter you from going?

@steveg1159 @masnRoch Bradish should demand lineups Jim Palmer style. Functionally the issue is they don’t have anyone who can both play CF defensively and hit LHP

Line of the night yesterday from DeCosta ICYMI, complete with hand gesture: "You can't just create a center out of the sky and say, ‘Oh, let's take this guy.’" Sam Hecht and Connor Lew still available, but Logan Jones and Jake Slaughter in Round 2 stung

The Orioles have struck out 11 times or more in four straight games, which is their longest such streak since doing that in six straight games in 2021

@afkostka Orioles pitchers could probably sue for malpractice at this point about the defense

@justin_fenton It’s frustrating, and functionally it’s been the same for all the hitting prospects to varying degrees. Haven’t been able to carry over minor league success to the majors

Coby Mayo now has 118 games under his belt and 355 at bats, and is hitting .198 with 11 homers and 122 strikeouts. You really hate to see it. #Orioles

One thing I noticed about Baltimore over the last two decades (while Harbaugh was there) - they did not pursue or have big time talent at DT. They got by on scheme and role players and pursued top talent at other positions Since Harbaugh became HC in 2008, they drafted a DT 12 times. 1st rounder: never 2nd rounder: 2x 3rd rounder: 4x 4th rounder: 2x 5th rounder: 2x 6th rounder: 1x 7th rounder: never

Notable context: #Ravens were also healthiest team in the league by a long way in 2024, so there’s that.

Zay Flowers points the finger at John Harbaugh for last season’s injuries: “However many practices in pads you can get, every single one. We’re doing 1-on-1s Week 17…That’s why we had a lot of injuries. Because of how we practiced”

It was a tough assignment Craig Albernaz gave Weston Wilson in LF at Camden Yards, and it just came back to bite the Orioles. With two outs in the third inning, Wilson couldn't make a difficult play near the weird nook on the LF warning track, and it allowed two runs to score.
