📝Check out our new publication in Demography! We find that wealth poverty is a more "sticky" form of deprivation than income poverty, with profound effects on children's educational attainment, especially college attendance. Big shoutout to my wonderful coauthors/advisors!
Demography Journal@ReadDemography

In “Net Worth Poverty in Childhood,” @hdsper01, L Keister, @Gen_Pov & @ShuyiQio use @umpsid data to examine the “role of wealth deprivation across a child’s life course” & the association w/ HS graduation & college attendance. @DukeSanford @Duke_Sociology read.dukeupress.edu/demography/art…

📑New paper's out! 🏠We identify 10 distinct financial profiles showing how income, assets, and debt combine in unexpected ways.🧐A fresh lens to rethink financial status beyond a single summary value. 💡Takeaway: Not all advantage looks the same, neither does vulnerability.

Financial well-being is more than income or wealth alone. By analyzing income, assets, and debt together, DUPRI's Lisa Keister, Jim Moody, & @ShuyiQio identify 10 financial profiles—revealing hidden forms of stability and vulnerability in U.S. households. journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/23…

Honored to be featured in Sanford’s Social Policy Month Q&A! Answering these five questions turned out to be a great moment of reflection on my scholar identity, what drew me this field and where I hope it leads. Grateful for the mentors and community that made this path possible

Shuyi Qiu’s research is grounded in the idea that inequalities in adulthood can be traced back to earlier stages of life, shaped jointly by macro, meso and micro contexts. Q&A w/ the Duke PhD candidate: duke.is/qiu-qa
