The British renaming the US Grumman F4F Wildcat as “the Martlet” might be one of the most British things ever.

@Bert_Plumswang Well we did name the Mustang, Dakota and Mitchell among others. So I don’t think our naming record was that bad.

@SiWilson_Flying @Hush_Kit Thanks Si! If you search amazon for 'Bing Chandler aviation books' they all come up, I haven't actually seen them in the wild although oddly friends in the USA have.

@SkippyBing @Hush_Kit Sweet work Bing, hadn’t realised you had turned your hand to writing books. Where can one find copies of these?

@Hush_Kit Ironically I don't have a copy of that, but I've got two of the helicopter one that isn't out until the 14th!

A Royal Navy pilot has been honoured at the White House for his work with the @USCG on stopping illegal drugs reaching the United States. Lt Cdr Fleming helped stop two vessels carrying more than 3,000kg of cocaine. ➡️royalnavy.mod.uk/news/2025/sept…

@clark_aviation The chock crews might be in place because they are either about to move the aircraft by hand or about to start it as there is someone on the port undercarriage leg looking like they might be getting ready to engage the inertia starting handle. Of course it could just be posed.

Making final adjustments to a torpedo fitted to a Fairey Swordfish of No 835 Squadron Fleet Air Arm before take off on board the American built Auxiliary Carrier HMS Battler at Greenock. Note US helmets and the bizarre chock crews, at readiness with a dead engine!

Or fly further away from the shoreline or cross the shoreline at an angle to minimise time where you will encounter higher densities of birds.

Flying low level parallel, close to the shoreline in an aircraft is never a good idea for the reason shown in this video. To avoid bird strikes it’s better to fly above 2000ft. Although it looks in this video the pilot has been forced down by low cloud. facebook.com/reel/110234435…

@scottiebateman I think his AEA may have been found to be “contaminated” after landing and probably had to be disposed of! 🙈🤣🤣🤣

There’s no point doing the enemy’s job for them and scoring an own goal. 🥅🚁💥 Thankfully for us, this looks like a Russian helicopter—so keep up the good work! It’ll save Ukraine some munitions having to shoot you down. 🇷🇺🎯🇺🇦

And if it’s not in an operational theatre, then it’s just an unnecessary dumb risk to take with the aircraft and the lives of others onboard—there is no margin for error.
