@Hush_Kit The brits had a VTOL aircraft working in the 1950s called the SC.1. It was used from 57 to 71, and used to test the puffer jets found in the harrier

@6thairborne My wife's grandfather received "the first bottle of champagne back from France" from a returning glider pilot who he towed on D-Day. I've copies of the press photos taken at the time but sadly not been able to source the original newspaper article. @Hush_Kit @almurray @James1940
