@ClaytonNall @eugenejohnson_ I couldn't say for sure of course, but that wasn't my impression. She just thought that some hard work at the end (e.g., acing the final) could really turn the ship around. She was resistant to the hard math of the syllabus (i.e., you can't miss all quizzes/the midterm & pass).

@SierraThomander @eugenejohnson_ Did the student have experience with "equity grading"? Apparently kids are allowed to turn in work as late as they want now.

This semester, I had a student who showed up to my class ZERO times. I allowed students, including him, to turn in some assignments late, and he did okay. He failed, then emailed angrily asking, “Why?” I mean, you missed 7 in-class assignments, including the midterm. lol

I always think of this quote on memorial weekend.

@maya_sen Agreed! I had a really nasty case two years ago and had to go into the ER for testing/treatment. My husband caught it 2 weeks later & collapsed in our living room. I had to call 911 (luckily the Stanford fire station is a few blocks away). It's scary stuff.

Awful news This hits close to home. In March I developed pneumonia following the flu. Went from mostly fine to barely being able to stand within 12 hrs It was the sickest I’ve ever been & I’m grateful to my doctor @ Harvard UHS catching it early. Pneumonia is no joke

I average about 12 likes and 200 impressions when I post my bird photos. But I just really like birds, so I share them anyways. This is a mountain bluebird, one of the prettiest birds in North America. This is the only one I've ever seen in Utah.

@CrusaderWatch I'm surprised more people don't do what my parents did: ask their kids what they'd like and give it to them while they are still alive. Some stuff they were still using but most they were glad to give to the child or grandchild who most valued it and be there to see them light up

Back when I was in private practice doing EP/Probate work, one of the biggest disconnects I noticed between the old people coming in to do wills and the children coming in to have wills processed was the attitude towards the Stuff

i never met a Mormon irl until one weekend my husband and i were bored and he said hey we should go to Hill Cumorah and i was like what is that. and he was like it’s where Joseph Smith got the gold plates and started Mormonism and it’s 25 minutes from our house. so i was like yeah whatever. we thought it was literally just a hill but no. it’s a pilgrimage site. there’s a Building. we gotta go in, he says. absolutely not. he insists. we go in. i am wearing a miniskirt and fishnets at the Very Serious Pilgrimage site. they want to give us a tour. they insist. husband is thrilled. they clearly view him as the patriarch and me as some sort of Fallen Woman. there’s a room with a giant Jesus where we sit first. then there’s a museum. then a shockingly high budget reenactment film of the birth of mormonism. then they finally let us go to the hill and there was a monument covered with the most ladybugs i’ve ever seen in my life. all the women are wearing floor length skirts and i am dressed like Elvira. anyway when we got back down to the center they gave us both our own books of Mormon and bookmarked pages for us and that was my first and only experience with Mormons.
