The Dirtier Your Hair, The Healthier They Will Be and Why Shampoos Make Your Hair More Unhealthy. Most people have been conditioned to believe that washing hair frequently equals healthier hair. Science actually suggests something slightly different. The scalp is naturally designed to produce sebum, an oily substance secreted by sebaceous glands. This oil is not dirt, it is your body’s natural conditioner and protective barrier. 1. Your Scalp Has Its Own Protective System Sebum contains fatty acids, triglycerides, and wax esters that coat the hair shaft. This layer: 1. Prevents hair from becoming dry and brittle 2. Protects hair from environmental damage 3. Reduces friction and breakage 4. Maintains scalp hydration When you shampoo too frequently, you strip away this natural oil layer. 2. Over-Shampooing Triggers More Oil Production Dermatological research shows that aggressive cleansing can cause the scalp to overcompensate by producing even more oil. Result: 1. Scalp becomes oilier faster 2. Hair becomes dependent on frequent washing 3. Natural oil balance gets disrupted This is one reason many people feel their hair gets greasy within a day of washing. 3. The Scalp Microbiome Matters Just like the gut, your scalp has a microbiome of beneficial microorganisms that help regulate oil production and skin health. Excessive shampooing, especially with harsh surfactants like SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate), can disturb this microbiome and lead to: - Irritation - Dry scalp - Increased sensitivity - More oil imbalance 4. “Dirty” Hair Is Often Healthier Hair When hair is not washed excessively: - Natural oils travel down the hair shaft - Hair becomes more flexible and stronger - Breakage reduces - Shine improves naturally Many dermatologists now suggest washing 2–3 times per week, depending on hair type. “Dirtier hair” does NOT mean: - Flaky scalp - Dandruff - Fungal buildup - Poor hygiene It simply means allowing your scalp’s natural oils to exist instead of stripping them away daily. The Shampoo Industry Problem The global shampoo industry is worth $40B+, and most products are designed to make your hair feel temporarily clean and fragrant, often encouraging daily use. But biologically, your scalp never evolved for daily detergent washing. In short; Healthy hair is not about removing all oil. It is about maintaining the natural balance your scalp already knows how to create. Sometimes, less washing actually means healthier hair.

@ShivamVahia @ManeeManjunath An actual human is actually getting paid while rich VCs are drained out of their investment, this is a win win for almost everyone.

@ManeeManjunath Like I said, call me old, but I'm not deploying an actual human to get me a INR 40 soft drink. I'd rather get it on my own or not have it.

Call me old but this casual "just Zepto it" is really getting annoying. It is hot today, felt like having a Coke, so walked out of office, went down, reached the adjacent store, and realised they have no sugary Coke. It's okay, no big deal, got something else. Why would I Zepto / Swiggy such quick basics?!
Shivam Vahia@ShivamVahia

It is so frustrating that every Coca-Cola can available out there is either Diet Coke or Coke Zero. The usual sugary red can has just vanished.

@ShivamVahia Nuclear is great but so expensive and takes too long to set up. The government prefers solar but they don't have any focus on energy storage...

Don't listen to this bullshit. Get your own land and a house. The house goes after 70-80 years, kids will still have a very valuable land. Don't smoke that money on some 10th floor apartment. Gated community with an independent house maybe. Certainly not a flat.
Ravi Handa@ravihanda

There is a popular belief in India that living in your own house on your own land is the ultimate lifestyle. I have lived in both houses and flats. In practice, flats are far more convenient. A few reasons why.

No amount of money or fame can repair genetic limits; eventually, better-looking men will sway away the women who first attached themselves to you out of their own inability to earn what you have.

@vaxryy Why is he so dumb? Like I have nowhere near as exposure to tech as him, all my life I've used low end stuff and that too is a privilege. I never had issues with Linux cause I used fedora like a normal person would, I tried popos but it lagged on my shitty laptop so I dropped it

I can confirm one thing for sure. That if Projectors generally has any good use case for something then it has to be sports. My father is now watching games of other teams too not just India. In his words, “when this entire wall is covered with such good brightness and colours, feels like we are in stadium and everything is happening in front of us.” A projector let you watch a game in such awesome way.. can’t be replicated on TVs unless you have 75 inch or 85 inch one. So yeah, get a projector if you’re into sports.

FYI - If you order Arc now, there’s a good chance it will arrive before the World Cup final so you can experience the match on a truly grand screen.
