NETFLIX $NFLX IS ABOUT TO SPEND $20B ON CONTENT THIS YEAR. TONIGHT WE FIND OUT IF IT'S WORKING.
For context, that's enough to make Avatar: The Way of Water, the most expensive movie ever made ($460M), 43 times over.
Netflix reports earnings today after the market closes.
Netflix was outbid on the $110B Warner Bros Discovery acquisition by Paramount and collected a $2.8B breakup fee. Stock jumped from $82 to $99. Investors didn't want the deal. They got paid $2.8B to walk away from it.
• Revenue guide: $12.16B (+15.3% YoY)
• Operating margin: 32.1%
• EPS estimate: ~$0.76-$0.77
Worth noting: 15 Wall Street analysts have revised EPS estimates downward. Zero have revised upward.
The 3 things that matter most:
• Ad business: Netflix doubled ad revenue to $1.5B in 2025. They're guiding to double it again to $3B in 2026. Q1 is the first real test of that pace.
• Subscriber count: Netflix stopped reporting this number, but any commentary on paid subscriber growth will be watched closely.
• Live sports: Actively bidding on a 5-game NFL package (competing with YouTube and Fox). F1 broadcast with Apple coming in May. FIFA Women's World Cup rights already locked in.
$8B in buyback authorization. The organic growth story is back in focus.
