I have said this before, but it's weird when you realize that what you thought was rock bottom was actually somewhere around rock middle

@ZachFOCO @ChrisCillizza McCain was also trying to split the difference between appealing to his party's base while fleeing an unpopular incumbent within his own party. Romney's personal charisma and vibes are roughly John Kerry's, and both were running against incumbents.

🧵 1/ After 2016, I stopped making predictions about elections. Because fool me once and all that. Instead of making predictions today, I decided to write a piece on what I believe to be true about Trump, Harris and the broader campaign. I came up with 11 things. Here we go:

@davidmscully @EpochTimes If it's inherited, *you* weren't the one who worked for it. That's not putting words in your mouth, it's knowing what "estate" means.

@SilentSnerk @EpochTimes don't put the answer ahead of the question. i don't think anyone should pay estate taxes. i don't care where they got their money from. you don't have to agree, but you can't generalize me to fit your answer

@IggyBeeBop @troy_senik Harding arranged for oil reserves held by the US Navy to be given to his secretary of the interior, who was subsequently convicted of bribery for the way he gave it to an oil buddy. If it wasn't Harding's intention to enable this, why even do it?

@SilentSnerk @troy_senik Nah. He wasn't involved. He famously lamented that his friends gave him far more trouble than his enemies. Harding was the anti-Wilson and ushered in a period of prosperity and peace the US hadn't seen in decades. And Coolidge maintained and improved Harding's policies.

Imagine being a Grover Cleveland biographer, Donald Trump runs for president trying to do something only Cleveland has done, Trump improbably spends a bunch of the campaign talking about a 19th century president ... and it's McKinley. The fates mock me.

@davidmscully @EpochTimes Interestingly, if someone became a millionaire from working, they'd already be paying taxes. It's only the silver spoons you want to exempt.

@SilentSnerk @EpochTimes it is worrying that you don't think working people can be millionaires....most of them are despite what you read and hear

@davidmscully @EpochTimes The death isn't the transaction, the transfer is. If money goes from person A to person B, it's taxed. You are not your parents. If you're worried about people being overtaxed, it's worrying your first priority for tax relief is millionaire heirs & not, you know, working people.

you think that someone's death is the transaction and therefore the tax is justified. i don't agree. currently the rate is 40%, when couple with income tax on certain assets the total tax is significantly higher. at some point u.s. citizens have paid enough tax. i think it is before death, you apparently do not. the tax is owed by the estate not by the beneficiary (federally). I know some states, PA, has an inheritance tax

@davidmscully @EpochTimes Estate tax also isn't 100%. My point is that your question is nonsense. It's not the asset being taxed, it's the *transfer* of the asset. If I hire someone to redo my porch, & pay him out of my taxed income, he still has to pay taxes on the money I paid him, right?

@SilentSnerk @EpochTimes Sales tax, income tax, capital gains tax are not 100%, therefore monies remain after the transaction. Estate tax is a tax on the assets after those taxes. My question remains how much tax is enough tax on an asset?

::whispers to self:: No, I’m not going down the Fake Melania rabbit hole. Not today. It’s comparatively trivial. There are more important things to do. I’m gonna call more voters. I’m gonna focus. But… no, I’m not doing this… sigh, okay, why is she wearing sunglasses indoors?

@TylerHuckabee Frasier Crane is a solid Dem-- people are blending him too much with the Republican actor who plays him. I could buy Lucy Ricardo going Trumper first. Depends if she bought his "anti-communism" schtick or thought accepting the KGB agent currently invading Ukraine was communist.

more or less agree with the majorities here with the major caveat that many of the guys this has voting for trump actually don't vote at all (homer, ron swanson, dwight, hannibal, rambo) and Hank Hill is probably the purest depiction of a NeverTrump Republican you'll find on TV.

@ChrisCillizza It's chicken shit but less important in his particular election. MD isn't in play anyway-- if he's miffed about his options, refusing to vote for either has no actual effect.

@davidmscully @EpochTimes It's not the dead person paying taxes tho. It's the person who inherited the money. Money is taxes every time it changes hands-- sales taxes, income taxes, whatever. Why should a person who works for a living pay taxes on every bit of it, & some silver spoon millionaire pay nada?

My argument is how much tax is enough tax? If a person pays their income tax, property tax, sales tax, etc. during their lifetime is lucky enough to accumulate assets over their lifetime, why pay 50%, 55% or 60% of tax on their assets at their death? At some point it becomes punitive.

@englishhurler @fietser_ian @acabylonbee Yeah, the fact that a guy could look like that *and* get around like he did, frequently with women who were also married, and generally for affairs lasting years at a time suggests it was more than charisma. He was probably actually good at it.

@ask_aubry Given Trump's history of spousal abuse (see Ivana's account), I'm sadly finding it more likely this is either to cover an injury or hide that she'd been crying, especially with the thick arms on those sunglasses. She looks like a welder.
