A heart-breaking moment saved in an SS picture of deportations of Hungarian Jews at Auschwitz II-Birkenau. It was taken 79 years ago, most likely in late May 1944. A little child found a dandelion in the grass and is handing it or showing it to an older boy. All the people in this picture were waiting to be killed in gas chamber. They were murdered some time later. Please RT this unique document.

@austingmeyer Nipah is so dangerous to the future of humanity, they will simply be denying their own inevitable demise

Do you think we will have Nipah virus denialism? Or is the 50% mortality believable enough? What say the newly minted social media epidemiologists? npr.org/2021/09/08/103…

@EllenSWilson Ellen. My Dad developed Parkinson’s Diseaseand eventually died from complications. Caring for him was difficult for my sibs but ultimately fulfilling and left lasting loving memories.

I haven’t talked about this on social media at all, because I didn’t have the words at first. But now I think I do, and I hope I’m not alone in this.

@austingmeyer The evidence is already pretty clear. You’re correct.

I don't know what university administrator needs to hear this, but college students are not going to magically become hyper-responsible, socially-distanced, pandemic-fighting warriors. It is not their fault. It is irresponsible of us to expect that of them.

@austingmeyer Lubbock received an F rating for social distancing and had a low number of cases outside of nursing homes. Definitely more activity for last week, waiting for impact

Some states are in a big hurry to reopen to help boost the economy. It seems important to ask whether officially lifting the lockdown will actually change anything about activity. For Ohio counties at least, in general, the dramatic drop in mobility actually *preceded* lockdown.

@jasonryanmd @DissanaikeMD This is an interesting plan. Are all students in one school expected to take their exams on one date? Or multiple dates. In person or remote? Who pays the proctors?

Medical school are already administering secure exams to their students for classes and rotations. What is the logic to withholding Step exams until Prometric centers can open? This could be months or more in some areas. Its time to adapt to the new reality.
Jason Ryan@jasonryanmd

It's time for the USMLE to authorize medical schools to administer the Step 1 and 2 exams themselves with local deans-faculty-administrators ensuring question security. Schools have lots of space for students to take the exam safely. Enough with the Prometric cancellations.

@ProfMJansen The death rate is above the state percentage but mainly due to nursing homes deaths

I'm confused why so many people are trying to do synchronous online instruction? Have you been mandated to do synchronous instruction using zoom/skype/webex? Asynchronous is resource lighter for everyone and requires less coordination amongst a student body and faculty in exile.

@pedsmd2b They’re accelerating graduation for final year medical students in Italy bc they can’t wait and need more healthcare workers. Hopefully we will be okay to let current MS4s graduate and start July 1 as traditionally done 🤞

I recommend doing the calculation for your local community, including calculating CFR, multiply by 5 for ICU cases and then by 4 for those requiring hospitalization. Sobering numbers

If you read one thing today, you may want to read these notes from a UCSF expert panel on #covid19 from March 10th. Estimate is that 40% to 70% of Americans infected over 12-18 months. linkedin.com/content-guest/…
