There's some concepts in marketing strategies about positioning, and sometimes is better to be the #2, cause everyone wants to take down the #1, and in music industry they get the most hate. All these artists were boycotted too and had ups and downs throughout their career. Taylor has been #1 for too long, through way too many albums and the industry doesn't like it, they tried many strategies to take her down and it didn't work. Take for instance, all the chart battles she won in the last years just got her more and more hate, while the #2 artists, while using the SAME strategies as her, received public praise and underdog status.
