Some conversations need people who understand rights in theory and in practice. We are pleased to welcome @Salima_SN, Vice President for Africa at @ReproRightsAFR, as a speaker at the 9th RHNK Pan-African AYSRHR Conference. A lawyer and human rights advocate, Ms. Salima brings deep experience in legal and policy development, litigation and advocacy, working across Africa to advance the rights to health, education and social protection. Her work sits at the intersection of law, policy and lived realities, helping ensure that commitments to SRHR are made and upheld. This is a perspective that challenges, grounds and strengthens the conversation. Join us in June to learn from great minds! #RHNKPanAfricanConference2026

Examples of people that would be much better at that: 1. The community health worker that has been doing home visits and knows almost everyone and their needs 2. The nyumba kumi elder that actually knows people around 3. That one church person that is respected in the community and people always look for them in times of need 4. That boda guy that’s known by almost everyone and trusted in the community. 5. That one teacher that has lived there for ages. 6. Heck, give the local mama pima a chance! Damn!!! 7. Anybody other than that fucker! Infact give the local prostitute that job. They know a lot about the community. So many people that are trust worthy and of good standing in the community and they don’t get used by politicians to pay young men to be militias. Mnitupie mawe nimevaa helmet 🪖

It is absolutely okay for Gaucho to be part of a hospital board. Health systems do not exist for healthcare workers alone; they exist for the public. Health policies are meant for public consumption, and community engagement is key.

We are excited to welcome @NLinKenya as a sponsor of the #RHNKPanAfricanConference2026. Because the real work happens when the right people, ideas and questions meet; and are taken seriously. Their support backs a space where assumptions are challenged, experiences are shared honestly and solutions are discussed with the people they are meant to serve. Having partners like the Netherlands Embassy in the room matters. They connect policy, financing and global experience to what is happening on the ground, helping ensure that ideas discussed here can influence real decisions, investments and action beyond the conference. We are glad they are part of this. #RHNKPanAfricanConference2026

Relebohile, our Pan African Youth Academy Fellow from Lesotho, puts it simply. ‘Young people are not just beneficiaries, they are leaders and part of the solution. And when they are not meaningfully engaged, the solutions remain incomplete.’ Young people from across Africa continue to face challenges in accessing SRHR. It is time we talk about them. We will be having these conversations at the RHNK Pan-African AYSRHR Conference. Real, honest and grounded in lived experiences. Register today and be part of it. #RHNKPanAfricanConference2026

This week, RHNK in partnership with @KJA_Kenya, we are convening a Regional Dialogue on Consent & Adolescent #SRHR that is bringing together judges from across Africa, legal experts, SRH healthcare providers and young people to confront one of the most complex barriers to adolescent health: consent requirements. This conversation, opened with remarks delivered by Commissioner Duncan Okello on behalf of Hon. Justice (Dr.) Smokin Wanjala, Supreme Court Judge and Director General of @KJA_Kenya, set the tone for a critical and timely conversation. There is a shared recognition that while laws are designed to protect adolescents, they can also unintentionally limit access to essential sexual and reproductive health services, especially when legal, medical and ethical considerations are not aligned. A powerful reflection from one of the judges yesterday captured the weight of this moment: ‘If we had had this conversation earlier, I would have handled some cases differently.’ This alone emphasizes a gap, and opportunity. In yesterday’s sessions, we looked at emerging evidence, shared country experiences and reflected on the realities faced both in courtrooms and in healthcare settings. A recurring issue was that we need to move beyond siloed approaches. There is a growing call to integrate legal, medical, ethical and social perspectives in judicial decision-making, ensuring that rulings not only uphold the law, but also respond to the lived realities of adolescents seeking care. Importantly, the discussions also highlighted that consent is not just a legal requirement, it is foundational to #selfcare and autonomy in SRHR. As self-care approaches expand, ensuring adolescents can make informed and supported decisions becomes even more important We also openly shared the challenges they face: - Navigating unclear or conflicting legal frameworks - Balancing protection with access addressing provider hesitation mainly caused by legal uncertainty We believe these candid conversations are strengthening how justice is delivered and how young people experience health systems. Today, we are shifting to practical interpretation, case-based learning and actionable recommendations, including how courts can interpret consent laws in ways that protect adolescents while enabling access to care. At @rhnkorg we are strengthening equitable and resilient health systems by connecting partners for alignment across sectors, empowering communities and supporting locally led solutions that improve access to healthcare and long-term community resilience. #RHNKImpact #RHNK4SRHR
