The “Zubimendi is just fatigue” crowd are in for a serious reality check next season. He’s already lost his place to MLS who provides the missing qualities in Arsenal’s midfield and complements Rice perfectly, if Matues Fernandes or Wharton joins, it’s curtains for him. I won’t be surprised if he has Merino-like role change, and gets shifted closer to the box or gets sold.

Team not ideal today. You need physicality against that West Ham backline (think Havertz vs Brentford back 3 games) and Gyokeres/Trossard is not it. Midfield is fine. They don’t have anything to throw at us there.

The reason Martín Zubimendi had a decent first half of the season was because teams hadn’t fully figured out his limitations on the ball. He still had that “Spanish metronome” reputation, so opponents didn’t press him aggressively, they thought he was Rodri. Now everyone knows how limited he is, he’s become a press trigger, it’s not fatigue. He doesn’t have the technical qualities to escape pressure like MLS, nor is he an elite passer of the ball.

I’m never wrong about my judgment and assessment of players. I kept saying that Zubimendi just isn’t good enough for this level even when everyone didn’t want to accept it. In the end, I turned out to be right. Sell him in the next transfer window and cut your losses.
