This is genuinely an incredible breakthrough by Stanford scientists. They were able to reverse Type 1 diabetes in mice by combining blood stem cells with insulin producing pancreatic islet cells, essentially teaching the immune system to stop attacking the body’s own beta cells. The results were remarkable: 19 out of 19 mice were prevented from developing Type 1 diabetes. 9 out of 9 diabetic mice were successfully reversed. And importantly, the mice did not need lifelong insulin or chronic immune suppression during the experiment. Of course, this is still animal research, not a confirmed human cure yet. Many treatments that work in mice fail in humans. But scientifically, this is one of the most exciting and legitimate Type 1 diabetes breakthroughs in recent years.
