@BarbaraBalCPC They didn't have 'our six'. They stuck a stick in a hornet's nest and didn't stop others from getting stung until they caught the guy trying to arrange attacks on US soil. We need to do better and get our own MI6, but I give no thanks to the US. It's their damn mess.

🚨 CANADA UNDER ATTACK. Earlier today, the U.S. Department of Justice announced the arrest of Mohammad Baqer Saad Dawood Al-Saadi, a 32-year-old Iraqi national and senior commander of Kata’ib Hizballah, an Iran-backed Shia militia designated a Foreign Terrorist Organization since 2009. Al-Saadi is charged with directing at least 20 terror attacks in Canada and Europe since late February - including a shooting at the U.S. consulate and an attack on a synagogue in Toronto. Once again, we’re thanking the Americans for having our six. We rely on FBI undercover operations and American courtroom disclosures to learn that our own cities were attacked by a foreign terrorist network. This is a dangerous sovereignty failure which should be unacceptable to every Canadian, regardless of political stripe. @scoopercooper @NorthrnPrspectv @Harry__Faulkner

Breaking News: An Iran-backed militia commander was arrested and charged with plotting to attack Jewish sites in the U.S., including one in New York. Prosecutors say he is a leader of Kataib Hezbollah, an Iraqi militia with ties to Iran. nyti.ms/4fuFtAS

@DanielTurnerPTF I don't know, maybe blowing up ports, ships and facilities that create some of the oil supply? And maybe having a chokepoint strait that 20% of oil tankers use being blocked? Don't recall other Presidents doing that crap.

Q: US Ambassador Pete Hoekstra is suggesting that allowing American alcohol back on store shelves can lead to movement on tariffs. Do you think it's finally time that premiers like Doug Ford reconsider this policy? POILIEVRE: I think it's time for Mark Carney to actually do something.

Canada is not a democracy. It's not even a free nation anymore. How could it be when Parliament is sidelined for eight months, allowing the executive branch to reign unchecked? Or when foreign interference is ignored and elections are gamed? Or when courts rule that the government broke the law and nothing changes? Or when the state controls your speech, your property, your energy, your news, your guns, your healthcare—and offers you assisted suicide when the wait times get too long? Canada has become something else: a managed oligarchy with democratic trappings, where the individual exists to serve the state. Look how far Canada has fallen. Because this could be America's future overnight.

@usapatriot20 @grok @JeffreyLuscombe @acnewsitics Most refineries in US are tooled to run on the heavy bitumen oil - very expensive and hard to change. It's delivered via a secure pipeline by a reliable supplier at a cheap price (because US is almost the only customer for that oil supply). Not charity, it makes bigger profits.

@grok @JeffreyLuscombe @acnewsitics Does America really need to buy oil from Canada? If we have the full capability to produce our own oil, wouldn’t that make buying Canadian oil basically an act of charity?

@peteremcc @ABBNS Sweden has a northern launch site (privately owned) that's used for satellite launches. It'd be nice for Canada to have our own ability to launch and not wait in line or pass some virtue test down south.

Does anyone in Ottawa understand basic physics? It's significantly easier (ie, cheaper) to launch to space from near the equator. That's why Europe's space port is in French Guiana. Anyone launching from Canada is either an idiot or expecting massive government subsidies.
Steven MacKinnon@stevenmackinnon

Today, we introduced the Canadian Space Launch Act. 🇨🇦 This legislation will deliver sovereign space launch capabilities to Canada and help create a new $40 billion space launch industry in Canada. We’ve reached the moon, but now we can launch Canadian rockets from home.

@trainofangels00 Hey Mike Angelle, who do you trust more, a friendly partner who suddenly turns on you, calls you names and threatens you or a competitor who everyone trades with but is not a friend? One lost trust and one never had it. Gotta trade with both.

@EU_Diplomacy @anneapplebaum Danes detected US intel probing military outside official channels. The US 111 Airborne was given 'prepare to deploy' notice, Greenlander independence and other greenlanders were approached by operatives, a US sub 7 miles off coast medevac'd a sailor. Danes reacted rationally.

@anneapplebaum I'm not sure if those token gestures were really preparations for war, but if the Danes truly believed it was then it just goes to show how stupid their leadership is. More likely, it was just part of the theatrics Western politicians are known for.

@Nimanesh @anneapplebaum Sure. Whataboutism at it's finest. Trump was talking and acting in a threatening manner. 111th Airborne in Alaska 'prepare to deploy', Denmark noting US intelligence probing Danish military, US trying to connect with Greenland seperatists... Europe reacted logically.

@dengeplus Chess master here. All chess tournaments ban phones due to cheating concerns. Any phone can run software that plays chess better than the top humans. Carlsen clearly had no problem with the pre-game selfie. Nurman just had to give up her phone before the actual game started.

I watched this story. Imagine an American citizen pulling up to the 🇨🇦 border - US flag in the backseat, derogatory signs already made. “What are you coming into Canada for?” “I’m here SPECIFICALLY to protest against your federal government. I hate the federal Liberals. I want them gone.” We would never let him in, NOR SHOULD WE. We have a democratically-elected government & we should never allow foreigners to protest it. So….that’s what the US guard said to him. Imagine being the guy thinking this is an important news story. Put the phone down, champ.

Taylor: The day that I decided to quit that administration was the day when a mentor of mine from capitol hill had died. His name was John McCain. The flags were at half staff around the country, and the president was trying to call us in Australia on the other side of the world, to say, not put out a statement in honor of John McCain, but to say, raise the flags back up. I don't care if you agreed with John McCain or disagreed. It didn't matter like Bob Mueller, he served this country in uniform. He was a sitting united States senator. He deserved to be honored with the flags at half staff—for the president of the United States to be so petty, so small and petty, to tell us to raise the flags back up in an act of active dishonor, tells you everything you need to know about that man and his lack of integrity and character.

When Trump leaves office: The Department of War will go back to being the Defense Department. The Trump Kennedy Center will go back to being the Kennedy Center. The Gulf of America will once again be the Gulf of Mexico. The unfinished East Wing (it won't be finished by the end of Trump's term) will be rebuilt by the next president, and it will not be a ballroom. Federal agencies packed with unqualified loyalists will fire those people and rehire the career experts Trump fired. The Department of Justice will go back to enforcing the law instead of protecting the president. Scientific agencies like NOAA, the EPA, and the CDC will go back to publishing research without political interference. The U.S. will re-align with its allies and not with its enemies. The presidential pardon power will stop being used as a rewards program for loyalists. Inspectors General will go back to investigating corruption instead of getting fired for it. The White House press room will go back to having briefings, with real journalists and not podcasters. U.S. foreign policy will stop revolving around flattering dictators. And the world will progress as though Donald Trump never existed.

Broadcasters that are running hoaxes and news distortions - also known as the fake news - have a chance now to correct course before their license renewals come up. The law is clear. Broadcasters must operate in the public interest, and they will lose their licenses if they do not. And frankly, changing course is in their own business interests since trust in legacy media has now fallen to an all time low of just 9% and are ratings disasters. The American people have subsidized broadcasters to the tune of billions of dollars by providing free access to the nation’s airwaves. It is very important to bring trust back into media, which has earned itself the label of fake news. When a political candidate is able to win a landslide election victory after in the face of hoaxes and distortions, there is something very wrong. It means the public has lost faith and confidence in the media. And we can’t allow that to happen. Time for change!
