No Bumrah. No Sundar. No Varun. And still Kuldeep Yadav couldn’t get a chance. The way mgmt is handling him says a lot about the management’s thinking. First, they kept backing Sundar, expecting he could contribute 20 useful runs with the bat even if he wasn’t making a big impact with the ball. But that same approach has failed repeatedly. A wicket-taking spinner can save 20–30 runs by creating breakthroughs. That value is equal to a few runs scored lower down the order. Instead of relying on bits-and-pieces options, India should be picking specialist match-winners. And now, with Sundar not available, Kuldeep still doesn’t get an opportunity. The selection logic is becoming difficult to understand. Forget winning a World Cup, if this process continues, India will struggle even to consistently reach the knockout stages.
