NEW: Footage released of a Chicago officer shooting his female police partner, who had allegedly broken off their romantic relationship.
Prosecutors say Baker "accidentally discharged" his gun, while the female officer's family previously said the situation "does not pass the smell test," according to local news.
Officer Carlos A. Baker and Officer Krystal Rivera are seen in the bodycam footage chasing a suspect.
Suspect Jaylin Arnold had been observed walking with an "unusual bulge" under his jacket, which they believed may have been a drum magazine.
The officers were seen chasing after Arnold, who ran into a building.
As Baker headed up the stairs and as Arnold ran into an apartment, Baker was seen firing a single shot, which hit Rivera, who was following behind.
Roughly 2 minutes after the shooting, Baker made his way down the stairs to Rivera's motionless body, according to investigators.
Rivera family attorney, Antonio Romanucci, said the officers were in an "on again, off again" romantic relationship.
Rivera reportedly ended the relationship after learning Baker was seeing another woman. She allegedly threatened to tell the other woman about their relationship.
Baker’s attorney says that his client "unintentionally discharged" his weapon and that he "immediately called for EMS, carried Krystal to safety, and ensured she was being transported to the hospital."

Police in Columbus Ohio mess up bad when they arrested a real ATF agent.
This one of those videos that really make local PD look bad. The first officer arrived on the scene and immediately drew his firearm and started demanding the ATF officer to get on the ground.
Never gave him a chance to show his credentials, treated him like a criminal with zero chance to prove his innocence. clearly in the video it is seen he had his hands up with his paperwork in his hand. There was no need to demand on the ground and not give him a chance to identify himself.
They arrested him, put him in the back of a squad car and continued to mock him until they made contact with his supervisor.
This ended in a huge lawsuit that cost the tax payers of Columbus 1.6 million dollars over two incompetent cops that believe or not as of 2025 are still on the force doing God knows what other damage.

@MrWhiteMAGA The best officers in America. They could’ve shot the shit out of his ass

The LAPD claimed Elias Real posed a threat when officers opened fire, yet video released by his family appears to contradict that account. It shows him walking AWAY with his back turned as shots were fired! We’ve seen how initial police accounts of deadly encounters often shape a narrative that doesn’t reflect the full story. His family deserves the full truth and transparency!

NEW: A 71-year-old Atlanta babysitter has been arrested for the Easter night murder of 3-year-old Armani Lyons, who was fatally shot in her care
On Easter Sunday in Atlanta, 3-year-old Armani Lyons was shot and killed while under the care of his 71-year-old babysitter Barbara Edwards.
His mother dropped him off at Edwards’ apartment before going to work at the airport.
“I’m not gonna see him again—no more laughing, no more playing, no more nothing,” his mother said. “He was just a baby who never got to really live.”
Armani died from a gunshot wound to the head at Grady Memorial Hospital.
Edwards has been charged with felony murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and cruelty to children in the second degree.
An arrest warrant has also been issued for Jermaine Hardeman, 35, who is currently on the run for the same charges.
