OK, we will try to chronicle the curious case of an unprecedented/unannounced orbital launch from Plesetsk on the linked page (work in progress, of course): russianspaceweb.com/spacecraft-202…

It only took the US about 3-4 years to go from a missile capable of 2,500 mi flight to orbiting the earth. That was with slide rules, number 2 pencils, and 1950's engineering principles, knowledge and all that was known to materials science at the time. We literally had to do it from scratch, they have all the benefits of what has been learned since including access to nuclear and missile tech from NK and RU.

According to the Wall Street Journal, citing multiple U.S. officials, Iran has targeted the joint U.S.-UK base at Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean with two intermediate-range ballistic missiles (IRBM). According to the report, one missile failed in flight whilst the other was engaged by a U.S. destroyer utilizing an SM-3 interceptor, but a successful interception was not confirmed. None of the missiles hit the base. This is notable as Iranian long-range precision fires have not previously been publicly assessed as having the range to hit such a target as Diego Garcia, as the base is some 4,000 kilometers from Iran proper.

@DundeeSat I also wonder where the Aegis interceptor used was - presumably in the Arabian Sea rather than the Persian Gulf

@tommysantos14 Unfortunately several of Trump's actions are not simply reversible: e.g. the fired experts have already new jobs, the damaged relations to friends and allies will take decades to rebuild, etc. The damage has already been done and Trump's legacy will haunt the USA for a long time.

When Trump leaves office: The Department of War will go back to being the Defense Department. The Trump Kennedy Center will go back to being the Kennedy Center. The Gulf of America will once again be the Gulf of Mexico. The unfinished East Wing (it won't be finished by the end of Trump's term) will be rebuilt by the next president, and it will not be a ballroom. Federal agencies packed with unqualified loyalists will fire those people and rehire the career experts Trump fired. The Department of Justice will go back to enforcing the law instead of protecting the president. Scientific agencies like NOAA, the EPA, and the CDC will go back to publishing research without political interference. The U.S. will re-align with its allies and not with its enemies. The presidential pardon power will stop being used as a rewards program for loyalists. Inspectors General will go back to investigating corruption instead of getting fired for it. The White House press room will go back to having briefings, with real journalists and not podcasters. U.S. foreign policy will stop revolving around flattering dictators. And the world will progress as though Donald Trump never existed.

Free molecular flow! In high vacuum, the mean free path of an air molecule is so large that normal flow breaks down and starts to behave like an infinite pinball machine... so you need a turbomolecular pump! And if you want to lower pressure even more, it gets even weirder.

@planet4589 Trump and his administration are the equivalent of a wrecking ball in so many fields - especially in the scientific field. I fear, the damage they have done (and are still doing) can't be undone for many, many years. And I think, that it won't end in a good way...

@hvgoenka A typical tanker carries 2 million barrels of oil. This equals to 8,000 to 10,000 truckloads. The historical average of 138 ships per day. This would equal 1,104,000 to 1,380,000 per DAY! Judge for yourself, if this would be a solution!
