When Jorge Polanco returns, Carlos Mendoza has said multiple times that he’ll be the primary DH while also seeing time at first base once or twice a week. That creates an interesting roster puzzle because Jared Young has been playing extremely well. Young can handle both first base and DH, and while he can play the outfield, that’s likely not an option given the Mets’ current depth there. Then there’s Mark Vientos, who has been up and down offensively/defensively. It’s going to be interesting to see how Mendoza finds at-bats for everyone, because fitting Polanco, Young, and Vientos into the lineup at the same time won’t be easy.
